    • Freedom Internet

@jwildeboer I think the idea of @freedominternet also makes a lot of sense. As an ISP and e-mail provider they include one domain name as part of their subscription. Because of this for instance my parents are now using their own domain name for e-mail. Without Freedom Internet I don't think that would have happened.

@ricardo if you also procrastinate long enough like I did (14 years), it'll be the same with Windows 11 ;)

@ricardo same here but with the copy of Windows 7 from MSDNAA that I got in university 14 years ago. Since last year doesn't seem so bad ;)

@erikkemp when I lived there, some of the faculty buildings already had locks that worked with a chip embedded in the key. At least the Zilverling had such locks. They could read out for an individual lock which keys were used with it.

@nina_kali_nina @juandesant autogenerated transcriptions are so bad that often it's just hilarious. Also for languages like English when the model is trained on Europeans/Americans and the people speaking are from another continent.

With translations it gets only worse. I treat these things more as comedy than anything else.

It seems very silly that people seem to take this seriously.

@kim_harding this http://10.0.4.49/pnas.2419630121 makes me really curious what network you are on :) :)

According to Wikipedia this is how people in North Korea tend to pass sites around: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwangmyong_(network)

      Kwangmyong (network)
Kwangmyong (광명 lit. 'Bright Light') is a North Korean national intranet service opened in the early 2000s. The Kwangmyong intranet system stands in contrast to the global Internet in North Korea, which is available to fewer people in the country. The network uses domain names under the .kp top level domain that are not usually accessible from the global Internet. As of 2016, the network uses IPv4 addresses reserved for private networks in the 10.0.0.0/8 range, also known as 24-bit block as defined in RFC 1918. North Koreans often find it more convenient to access sites by their IP address rather than by domain name using Latin characters. Like the global Internet, the network hosts content accessible with web browsers, and provides an internal web search engine. It also provides email services and news groups. The intranet is managed by the Korea Computer Center. History The first website in North Korea, the Naenara web portal, was made in 1996. Efforts to establish the Kwangmyong network on a national scale began...

    @jwildeboer indeed working now!

I guess to get things really aligned you'd have to derive the used variation from the country and document type, but it will be hard to figure this out at a large scale. If you want more info on the documents I have, I could share this privately some time.

@jwildeboer it seems to struggle with multiple names though, when I put "DE PATERNOSTER EN NOGMEER NOGMEER" for the family name, a space ends up in the MRZ where there should be a <. It seems to stop replacing spaces with < after some family names.

@oleksandr in that case, you might want to actually consider paying Kyivstar again? I think they only provide a limited amount of data abroad though.

I think in all EU countries (mobile) internet subscriptions are a lot more expensive than in Ukraine.

It's already impressive to me they kept your SIM working if you didn't pay for 3 years. Seems quite good service.

@jwildeboer ah wow you are right. I just checked a visa issued by the same country and it chops off the name without any given name initial.

So some countries are not even consistent in which approach they use...

@jwildeboer are you sure it's handling long family names correctly? What I see on an actual card is that it's chopped off such that the initial letter of the given name can still fit.

Now it seems to just put a partial family name till the end and no given name initial.

@oleksandr Kyivstar's mobile internet is pretty sweet. They provide native IPv6 with individual addresses for all your devices when you use their SIM in a mobile router.

With just 5 GB that doesn't seem that exciting though :)

@LiefhebberV ook wel bijzonder dat hij Nexta hiervoor als bron aanhaalt. Nexta is Belaroesisch.

@mcc @gkrnours not by the end user at least (maybe under the hood?).

To do a version upgrade, you are expected to use `do-release-upgrade` on Ubuntu.
