@goatsarah Fascinating history of those times and how scrappy everything was. Although I was an Apple not Commodore user back then I still read all of Brian Bagnall's books on the soup to nuts history of the company and its products.
@goatsarah My first programming experience ever was 6502 as well, BASIC not assembly though. I never got too fancy with the graphics or memory requirements. Even my first structured programming on the Mac and PC using Pascal and then C were small enough programs to make worrying about all that memory segmentation stuff on either platform, albeit far less complicated on 1980s Mac. As I think of trying retro computing challenges I may end up experiencing it eventually.
@sophie I've already seen places where people are like, "I wasn't sure about this medical topic so I asked ChatGPT and it surprisingly knew the answer." My response, "It gave you an answer. Did you confirm the answer was correct?" This is worse than blindingly taking the first answer from Stackoverflow without checking if it is right or makes any sense. It'd be like blindly taking the first web search result in the early web when some random quack site could come up as a top result.

hankgI see more instances of people telling me, "I wasn't sure about this medical topic so I asked ChatGPT and it surprisingly knew the answer." My response, "It gave you an answer. Did you confirm the answer was correct from a reputable source?" This is worse than blindingly taking the first answer from Stackoverflow without checking if it is right or makes any sense. It's more like blindly taking the first web search result in the early web when some random quack or Nazi site could come up as a top result. #ai#chatgpt

hankgThe people behind Bluesky/Threads/Post/anything besides ActivityPub/Diaspora protocol federated social web, financially and otherwise, are the exact same people that gave us the calamity of modern social media and tried the exact same market monopoly move with web3/crypto (which I despise for other reasons but that’s a segue). They even sold the latter with the same decentralization and egalitarianism marketing shtick. I’ll be damned if I trust my social media presence to them again.
