@Popehat nails it as usual (thank god for the Bluesky bridge into Friendica). Shared via screenshot for the rest of the fediverse... #twitter

hankgTL;DR seems to be that Substack is still a Nazi bar but they just want the Nazis to not wear their entire uniforms there any longer since it is freaking out the neighbors. Got it. Actually that may be too generous an interpretation of this development. I appreciate the efforts and the infinitesimal results that were achieved were more than I thought they'd get. But it's still just a Nazi bar. #Substack
Someone recently discovered the early copy of 86-DOS (the pre-cursor to PC-DOS/MS-DOS). This person made a video exploring it. This is version 0.11 from July 1980 previously seen by less than a dozen people.
@failedLyndonLaRouchite It's a bit overly simplistic but yeah they paid something less than $100K entirely for the rights and hired the 86-DOS main developer, Tim Paterson, of 86-DOS to get it up to where it needed to be to become PC-DOS. MS-DOS 1.x was very rough but had lots of improvements over 86-DOS. IIRC MS-DOS 2.x was essentially a ground up rewrite though.

hankgI'm really trying to prime the pump on using PeerTube over YouTube. Even more than other parts of the fediverse it seems search/content discovery is ineffective enough that I'm going to call it broken :(. To brute force through this I even went to Sepia, got a list of all the servers, spent a couple hours going through accounts to find ones I even had a nominal interest in. My instance knew none of them. Fine, I'll just paste their channel URL into the search bar to force a fetch. Nope. Thankfully doing that with a video worked. Then I could subscribe to them, and away we go. I hope/hoped. There was one video that I forgot to add to a "watch later" list. Surely now that I subscribe to that account I could type their name in the search bar and it'd find it. Nope. What about keywords from the video? Nope. I'm at a loss for what it takes to finally have that start showing up on my local instance. Maybe I need to self-host to start figuring some of this out perhaps fix. Once I find stuff the streaming is great though. And I'm very glad to see there are now built-in mechanisms to help creators monetize through donations. #PeerTube#fediverse.
@amoroso I was going to ask if there were any major x86 based workstations of the 1980s and doing some searching found out at least Sun made one as early as 1988. It still seems like an outlier by dedicated workstation vendors. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun386i
@heluecht@goatsarah This seems even more feature-full than the Twitter plugin ever was. The multiple-posts to break up too long messages, the propagation of following accounts, etc. I think the one thing that I would love to see is the option to put a URL to the original Friendica post in the message body sent over to Bluesky. For me this is as much about evangelism in the non-fediverse space as following users that jumped ship from Twitter to Bluesky instead of the fediverse...
OK Enough playing with the new Friendica...back to the tasks I am supposed to be doing. The Bluesky bridge, the thing I've been looking forward to the most seems to be working very well. Posts from Friendica shows up there, with proper segmentation if longer than their paltry 300 character limit. Following an account from the Friendica side propagates over to the Bluesky Account. Reshares/likes/comments on Bluesky posts done in Friendica are properly reflected there. Reshares/likes/comments on fediverse posts do not show up over there, as expected. The Bluesky content is not federated to other fediverse servers, as expected. I can't even get it to come up with a direct link search. So all thumbs up! The only hiccup I've found so far is posts that are reflected from Friendica to Bluesky seem to show up in Relatica as from my Bluesky user when they are split up. Still overall excellent work to everyone that worked on it, especially @heluecht #friendica#fediverse#BlueSky
@freemancrouch A lot of the complaints I've seen from them boil down to "we can't get it to agree that it is okay to say the n-word or some other ethnic/anti-lgbt slur if it would save millions of people in some hypothetical scenario." It's encapsulates the right wing "philosophical debate" crap they tell each other are deep thoughts. It's crazy over there...
