@inthehands I was there, 11:30 - 12;20. Pretty confident that there were at least 100 around Noon. Good energy. I may hit the Maplewook next week, looks like that had about 25. I counted that many on a video Indivisible Twin Cities posted. #TeslaTakedown
Sharp thread from @inthehands on the limits of commercial media and value of Unicorn Riot.
As someone who was close, but not immediately adjacent to the George Floyd protests and unrest (in St. Paul, 19 y/o offspring demonstrating) my observations of the moment are very similar. It was all true: legitimate grievance, outside agitators, opportunists, etc. Reality TV is the best way to describe how media edited the situation to create a narrative.
Josh Marshall has some real advice for people working toward a Democratic victory in November:
"Trump the racist bully and gangster is what kills him in the suburbs. It’s what embarrasses people.
Complaining the attacks aren’t fair won’t do it. It needs to cut right at what Trump is. Sure, show us why so many people hate you. Fighting means fighting."
Ther last successful examples of a challenge to or replacement of an incumbent resulting in victory for the incumbent's party was 1948. See 1968, 1976, 1980, 1992, and 2020 (Lincoln project) as counter examples. #uspolitics#uspol
Yes, this is unique; 1912 last example of two candidates who have been elected President.
This limits the usefulness of historical examples, but that does not imply that the opposite of the trend is true. 2020 is the clearest analog imo: unpopular incumbent running against politician with national experience.
Close polls are simply not predictive at this stage.
This is Biden's decision. Forcing him out makes it worse for Dems.
McGraw Hill #TeachWorldHistory textbook combines ancient India and China into one chapter, while spreading the ancient Mediterranean across two chapters (Greece and Rome).
