@mntmn not a potential buyer so my opinion might be worth zero, but I loved the original reform's acrylic cover and since this can be hung to a wall, maybe it makes even more sense here.

I painted and/or replaced a few parts on my #kdx so now you get to see it. I also took it to a nice place for photos.

@ajroach42 in a world without perpetually powerful hardware, the software will have to be slimmed down. As such, your 2012 android 4.4 smartphone will be more valuable (not as an antique) than it is today.

Every past piece of tech that gathered a critical mass of nerd owners has seen improvements and life way longer than the intention of its manufacturer. In a world where hardware is no longer cheap, old, still working devices might reach that critical mass.

Software distribution will have to value broad compatibility more than anything as it will not be able to reach people if confined to specific devices.

Old things also have unpatched vulnerabilities so liberating them will be made automated.

I'd love to do software for that world.

@Nicovel0 @futurebird @amsomniac I live in athens. Batteryless electric buses have been driving around the city the last ~60 years. Now there are a few hundred chinese battery powered busses as well.

@stefan it seems presumptive to my old webdev mind to assume all places that allow embeds will allow external js.

Also, seriously, do you expect me to backdoor my own site??

@stefan now that I think about it, with instances coming and going, this is a security issue. I can go buy a domain of a defunct instance and XSS all sites that ever embedded a post.

@davidho no they couldn't. It's induced demand all over again. Just as with leds we just shine more light, we would have found other ways to gobble up the efficiency of newer engines.

All this efficiency thing is just "light cigarettes" from car manufacturers and oil corporations.

I guess I need a "they played us for absolute fools" meme here...

@ajroach42 @djsundog it just happens I'm also recently out of a job. I need a bit of downtime but I this is something that I'd love to be involved with.

Also I think, being based in .eu I might be a good vehicle through which we could apply for an ngi zero grant, to help bootstrap this.

@aral how do you propose handling moderation in a theoretical peer to peer social space? Shared blocklists? Even then, if it's fast to create new single tenant instances won't spam be an issue?

@mcnado hm, I find the phrasing of this post a bit problematic as it insinuates that it's something notable for "a country like pakistan" to be more progressive than "somewhere in 'murica".

Not trying to pick a fight here, just pointing out that it hit me like that.
