   Just to be clear — Pakistan has a law protecting trans people that is more progressive than laws in Florida and other GOP-led US states. In fact, the GOP and guys like DeSantis are more closely aligned with the sharia court in Pakistan that is trying to undermine trans protections. So to recap — Pakistan is more progressive than Florida.

     @qwazix @mcnado So, yes, there is, of course, colonial framing here. But, on the other hand, you also cannot ignore that we’re talking about a place where people get stoned to death in honour killings (not linking to any articles as they’re gruesome. You can do a search to verify.)

     (Said as someone whose birth country also has said honour killings in the name of a magical sky fairy.)

     Mind you, if DeSantis had his way, he’d likely legalise them in Florida.

     @mcnado hm, I find the phrasing of this post a bit problematic as it insinuates that it's something notable for "a country like pakistan" to be more progressive than "somewhere in 'murica".

     Not trying to pick a fight here, just pointing out that it hit me like that.
