So, the FBI can arrest a judge without a judicial warrant, and local law enforcement and/or a judge (issue a warrant) can arrest an FBI agent.

Four years ago, you probably assumed the FBI Director would never have ordered the arrest of a sitting judge based on "belief" and not "evidence", the required legal standard not met in Patel's deleted tweet declaring "We believe Judge Dugan intentionally..."
It's likely why his idiotic public brag was quickly deleted by the legal handlers of that fatuous imbecile.

China sees this as its moment of preeminence on the World's stage, because of Trump. The stupidity and recklessness of Trump.

Trump is addicted to the endorphin rush of dominance for dominance sake. So, there is no goal to negotiate or any outcome to come to, it's all a process high. So there's never any complete satisfaction on his part. He uses three tools: vanity, greed, and fear. To keep the high going. Endlessly, until he dies.

It's a psychology that's bad for relationships of all kinds. There's never "good enough".

Everyone has spent time trying to figure out what he wants, as if the process has some tangible goal that satisfies him like winning something that matters. The process, the playing of the game itself, is what he lives for. It's the rush in the act of dominance he wants, but it's an escalating rush that can never ultimately satisfy.

It's why he makes no sense. Why he lies pathetically about winning even stupid meaningless stuff.

China has him figured out, and he's bad for business. He's an untrustworthy global partner. China's building a box, getting ready to now be the world's new boyfriend.

Please understand the poem's breathtaking warning in that context. That warning was meant for the smug supporters of a fascist dictator, the rest of us should already understand we're already in the crosshairs, but their time, too, is coming.

The good Nazi supporting Pastor Niemoller was arrested and imprisoned because he refused to agree with the mandated Nazification of his Lutheran Church, to turn his conservative Protestant church into the Church of the Nazi State. Many others capitulated.

I've withheld criticism of Merrick Garland for four years. I have only this left to say: He would have made a shitty Justice, he has no backbone, no courage of his convictions. Garland failed our nation, and his failures enabled ruthless fascists. Garland's tenure was no profile in courage. Garland is no Ketanji Brown Jackson.

I once appealed a denial of pay for a radiologist to read an approved x-ray. I laughed and said "Does this even make sense to you: You pay for an x-ray you won't allow anyone to read?"

It was approved after I appealed.

On this day, December 7th, I remember my Uncle Bob who was a member of the Hawai'ian Territorial Guard in their WW1 surplus Tin Hat helmets and rifles in the 1930s and 40s. They were mustered as first responders to save sailors and marines from the burning waters of Pearl and transport to Tripler immediately at the attack.

His sister, my mother, watched the horrific attack from Manoa where she worked as a live-in nanny as she attended secretarial school in town. Her employers told her to rush home to the North Shore. She said the explosions and fires were shocking and scary. When she got home, they learned Bob was at Pearl with the Guard but had no contact.

Meanwhile, at Pearl, after hours of diving into the burning waters and transporting the wounded, by about 6pm, Uncle Bob and his fellow Guard troops who were Americans of Japanese ancestry found themselves under arrest at bayonet-point as spies, under the orders of a white Mainland General. They were held for days by US troops with guns trained on them until local officials intervened and they were released.

Bob rejoined his Guard unit reformed as the 100th Battalion, then volunteered to fight in Europe as part of the segregated 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most highly decorated US military unit in US military history for its size. They knew they were going to be used as racist cannon fodder, and they fought valiantly despite it. Because, for guys like my Uncle Bob (and three other Uncles and my cousin Buster) they were fighting for their home, Hawai'i, and for democracy. In one battle, a short company of 110 was left with only 8 standing. Bob was wounded multiple times, and received Bronze Stars and commendations which we did not know about until after he died and was given a military funeral with 21 gun salute.

The fight for democracy is a relentless and continuing fight. This is why I fly the American flag, to honor those who willingly sacrificed, with full knowledge of their beloved, complicated, and imperfect America. Uncle Bob was a devout Buddhist, and war and killing were antithetical to his personal religious beliefs, and this was his greatest sacrifice, one that left him in absolute quiet moral agony till he died in 2008, at Tripler.

He was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest, soft-spoken quiet man. RIP.

Can we get a correction here, folks? The "covid tests" Trump took from scarce US supplies to send to Putin were not the two-to-a-box OTC kits you can get at CVS today. What Trump sent were the scarce Abbott Labs Covid Testing Machines (plural), not cardboard boxed kits; These 2020 Abbott machines were Emergency Authorization early approved state-of-the-art 6.6 pound molecular point-of-care testing machines the size of a toaster. Hospitals and clinics desperately needed these rapid (5 minute) test machines to determine who was or wasn't infected to stop the spread. Americans likely died because they were denied access to US machines that Trump was stealing from US supplies to send to his KGB handler.

Do something anonymously kind for someone else. Expect no thanks, seek none out.

And keep the secret of your kindness or generosity to yourself. It becomes a bright glowing secret that is all your own. I find it brightens up the foul dark days.

Go outside, into the sunlight or the starlight. Breathe in the air. Focus on it. This moment is yours, only yours. To keep for yourself.

@AppleFanboy Oh, so a romantic foul mood. Again, not my forte. I will say I unexpectedly met someone when I was in my 50s and that was it! She lived states away. We figured it out. Have been happily together and married now for years, and time has flown by. Geography doesn't have to be determinative.

My mother had no idea on how to bank, so from 1974 to 1980, my dad (who was blind and dying - but who was man, so had a bank account) would talk her through how to write a check, make a deposit, balance the checkbook, and calculate interest. He knew he has dying and wanted her to be self-suffcient. It's why there remains a legacy of gender-based financial illiteracy among older women.

That was such a critical fact in this story of an elderly Nobel Prize physicist who had to hock his prize to pay for his medical care because medical care is not a human right. I get it, it wasn't sad and tragic because he didn't die the day after he sold it, he died 3 years later. It was a wonderful feel good story. How could we have missed it.
