@dansup I really would want to migrate away from pixelfed.social onto my own pixelfed instance to make room for others but it’s unfortunately still unclear whether pixelfed-to-pixelfed is supported yet and if so, how it works (see GitHub reports on this matter as well)…

choyer (choyer@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 25-May-2023 18:22:46 JST choyer @pixelfed Love it (albeit not relevant for me personally with a more photography-focussed user profile), but account transfers as a feature would really help the growth of additional instances in the interest of decentralisation. You mentioned working on this before @dansup, any expected arrival date? How big would the bounty need to be? ;) I’d contribute, probably other people would chip in too!

choyer (choyer@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 09-May-2023 09:05:23 JST choyer Just read that a flagship non-Mastodon instance blocked at least one major server (the biggest UK #Mastodon instance) preventing their users interacting and exchanging with each other. Not sure how this walled bubble approach fits in with the enthusiastic attempts to place such instance as some kind of mainstream alternative to #Mastodon. I am off for good, I like to make my own decisions on a server with mature and non-arbitrary admin policies. @fediversenews

choyer (choyer@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 09-May-2023 09:05:22 JST choyer This defederation and blocking mania (have a look at the blocking list of some instances) is a risk for the #fediverse and I also believe it is conceptionally questionable, at least if you run some kind of flagship topical or geographical instance. Do what you want on a small community server but if you serve a huge community on a leading instance you need to deploy appropriate, proportionate, non-arbitrary moderation principles.

choyer (choyer@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 02-May-2023 05:05:10 JST choyer @Mastodon I actually find this measured and reasonable, in content and form. I do understand the concerns re too much centralisation but it’s still possible to choose another server on the app. People who can’t be bothered will of course choose the default but they would do so anyway (or drop from the process). Also, why all this criticism about the corporate tone? Professional communication is important and key to grow the user base beyond the enthusiast gang.

Currently testing #misskey, #calckey and #friendica but not really convinced.
What’s your preference (and why?)
