Federal workers I know are very encouraged by people flooding the #antiDEI snitch email address with spam. They feel like someone has their backs.

Even small (and perhaps silly) acts of solidarity may have a big impact in ways you don’t think about.

@rysiek @futurebird This is super important, I learned it from one of my managers early in my career. If someone has a verbal conversation with you at work where they tell you to do something problematic, either tell them to put it in writing or send them an email following up on/recapping the conversation to cover yourself.

I saw that video of Elon #Musk doing the Nazi salute and he looks like a high school freshman getting a thrill out of doing something naughty. All the money in the world and he has a bargain-bin personality.

@ErickaSimone Unfortunately they are going to have to do the same things with their moderation and algorithms that Twitter and Meta did to stay in Trump’s good graces, so TikTok will be very different going forward.

Maybe try Loops, which is similar although it doesn’t have all the same capabilities as TikTok (yet).

It’s a new business opportunity! Someone will make money helping sites comply with this law.

And/or they may be using it for other things they’re not telling users about, because everyone does that these days.

@zleap @kneoghau @GossiTheDog Ofcom (and the UK government in general) doesn’t really care about the feasibility or trade-offs. They want to score political points or want tech companies and content providers to wave a magic wand and make it work.

@zleap @kneoghau @GossiTheDog Also any age verification law means not just tracking children but tracking everyone else, too.

Then you have a “papers, please” internet which means people can be surveilled/blackmailed with their browsing history much more easily.

@zleap @kneoghau @GossiTheDog In the U.S. laws about age verification for porn sites have prompted big porn sites (like Pornhub) to shut down in states where those laws were passed.

The potential liability exposure of violating the law, even if they are doing their best to follow it, is just too much.
