Indeed, but Twitter is owned by a WHITE American. A WHITE American who endorses the far right, and wants the far right AfD to win the German elections.
There was an interview with someone the other day about Musk on BBC news, one of the things that was pointed out, is tht Musk owns SpaceX which has done some good things with rockets, and Tesla.
A response to that could be that Jimmy Saville raised millions for charity, he did, BUT after he died and people found out he was a paedophile, all that fundraising became irelavent
e.g 2 JK Rowling wrote the Huge popular Harry Potter books, sure true statement, but she has also been outspoken on Trans people, result is that even the actors from the films have distanced themselves from JK Rowling.
So, now that Musk has donated to Trump, and tried to interfere in British Politics, is trying to help the AfD win in Germany, and is trying to perhaps help reform win in the Uk, how long before people wake up and just decide Musk is no longer needed, regardless of what Space X and Tesla achieve. Once trumps policies kick in and people start to suffer they will put 1+1 together.
To some extent the same goes for Mark Zukerberg allowing trans hate on his platform under the guise of 'free speech' there has to be a point where people say enough is enough.
I think in China they value education, parents value education and teach their kids to do the same, they also teach their kids respect.
Perhaps one of the reasons China brought in controls to limit how long kids can do gaming or social media for, to the west this is because china is seen as oppressive, but maybe the Chinese government also recognise how gaming and social media impact heath and education etc.
This is just an idea, so needs some sort of citations etc.
@GossiTheDog Anyone know why the Chinese version of tiktok encourages kids to learn to play an instrument while the American version encourages them to destroy school bathrooms?
@zleap@GossiTheDog There are plenty of evil white American oligarchs. But Musk and Peter Thiel being white South Africans who long for apartheid…it explains a lot.
@zleap@kneoghau@GossiTheDog >> I think in China they value education, parents value education and teach their kids to do the same, they also teach their kids respect.
They have social media age restriction laws in China that compel Douyin to limit its content for younger users.
Have you ever set parental controls on your child’s devices? It’s basically the same thing.
@zleap@kneoghau@GossiTheDog In the U.S. laws about age verification for porn sites have prompted big porn sites (like Pornhub) to shut down in states where those laws were passed.
The potential liability exposure of violating the law, even if they are doing their best to follow it, is just too much.
Kids have had access to porn for decades, not like we didn't have top shelf mags at school or some floating around usually, we still had page 3 of the sun.
I have read before that naturist magazines such as health and efficiency did the rounds at school.
I still think it is about education, perhaps if we had more and not less naturism, our attitude towards sex and nudity would be different.
@zleap@kneoghau@GossiTheDog Ofcom (and the UK government in general) doesn’t really care about the feasibility or trade-offs. They want to score political points or want tech companies and content providers to wave a magic wand and make it work.
Indeed, in fact I think back in 2023, there was a company who sued the government as they spent a lot of money developing a solution that was no longer needed, due to the way the government handles things (as in badly).
Or in the case of Grooming gangs, hold endless inquiries that will conclude with the bleeding obvions that most normal people could tell them in a few minutes.
The GDPR should protect people against misuse of data, as for lack of security and data breaches, the GDPR covers that, but it is too late if there is a data breach.
I can see it being a recipe for disaster given how lax security is or can be.
@zleap@kneoghau@GossiTheDog There is another dimension to this which is: creating the need for age verification/collecting and storing sensitive information on users and what sites they visit is the entire point.
It’s a new business opportunity! Someone will make money helping sites comply with this law.
We know who was invovled, it was the fact that social services, the police didn't want take action as they were scared of being called racist. They blamed victims, which statutory guidence says NOT to do. It was a total screw up from top to bottom and noone was held accountable.
