@BeAware What I mean is, he's planning to soon add the mechanism that he promised those people in That Thread, that you'd be able to request a follow from someone on the other side and the first time someone wants to follow them, they'll get a DM from the bridge asking if they want to enable it. So it will be a bit more automatic than it is now. AFAIK this is supposed to take a form of DMing the bridge account with the handle of the target account. He mentioned this in the last status update.
@BeAware I think it's undecided what to do about the Fedi>Bluesky direction, it *might* actually end up as auto-accept, because DMs on B are restricted by default, and he doesn't want to send public request messages
@BeAware AFAIK Snarfed has the DM request mechanism on a short list of things to do now, so this should hopefully come in not so far future - I'm really looking forward to this, because I'm just gonna spam all accounts I'm following here with follow requests from Bluesky then
@BeAware btw, I'm tracking the amount of daily posts and posting users coming over the bridge from Fedi to Bluesky, here's how it's looking at the moment: https://bsky.app/profile/mackuba.eu/post/3kvppyqptqk25 (green is Fedi, so around 1000 accounts bridging their posts daily to Bluesky)
@BeAware the bridge account seems to have 4.4K followers (but 3.6K follows), so something on that order… obviously I don't know the answer to the second question 😉 (though I guess: most aren't?)
@BeAware Hmm, Authorized Fetch is required to react to deletes? That doesn't sound right, I don't have it on (I think most instances don't?) and I've definitely seen some statuses in the feed disappear from before my eyes
@BeAware Ooh, interesting, you're right! I clicked "open the original page" and it looks like the post isn't there on the source account, but it's showing up on mastodon.social in the feed. I wonder why the delete hasn't synced there…
One thing that's definitely in the top 3 most annoying things on #Mastodon for me is that I see a post on https://mastodon.social now on the #bluesky feed, I want to reply to it, and there's literally no way to do it… nothing works, I don't know why, no error messages, who the hell thought this is good UX 😖
@BeAware@Jerry Yes, I know it seems that way to the Fedi folks, because they're looking from the Fedi perspective so they're kinda naturally looking for things working the same way, like humans expecting aliens to be two-legged two-eyed humanoids 👽
To me, decentralization is not a 0-1, it's a spectrum, or rather things can be decentralized to a different degree in different ways. Bluesky/ATProto is *somewhat* decentralized and it's gradually getting more decentralized, step by step.
@BeAware@Jerry At the moment, yes, because they're running the only AppView and Relay. But that could change maybe a year from now, anyone can set up those, it's just not as easy. Once there are other AppViews and Relays, you will be able to post and communicate from those external PDSes and be seen by others, even if Bluesky decides to block you.
@BeAware And the funniest thing is, Nostr users as a community are probably in general waaaaay less "compatible" with Mastodon users than Bluesky users are (hint: fans of crypto, libertarians etc. vs. mostly also leftist/liberal/anti-capitalist leaning people)
@BeAware Who knows, maybe you've said something there and not here and they didn't make a connection 🤷🏻♂️
I even had it happen more than once that someone unblocked me after blocking me for months, because someone mentioned me, they suddenly realized I'm not actually a monster, and then… they followed me… 🤨
