@aredridel @skinnylatte Once, a friend and I had to discuss a cultural conflict after the fact to understand it.

The Southern obsession with finger food is that accepting bigger portions of food makes you look like a poor hungry person, and I come from a culture where rejecting food is rejecting a person's hospitality or insulting their cooking.

We were at an impasse, and later we discussed what happened culturally.

They have distributed red "Know Your Rights" training cards, and non-profits are doing trainings after school.

Children had escorts going back homes in case parents had been detained. All children except for one had parents to go home to. Some of them had issues where ICE had blown off the doors. The district was prepared to have a shelter for families if needed.

The school district began training staff on policies on how to interact with ICE. The school bus drivers were trained to lock the bus doors and to protect the children.

They are concerned that at the federal level, privacy policies for schools and children may be struck down.

If ICE does make it into the building, the schools are to go into a lock down drill, the type of drill you would do if a shooter is in the building, locking classroom doors.

THE director of the Denver Public School Board of Education is the first naturalized Latina president of the school board.

They need more people on this Zoom call.

The school board member went to check on one of the schools to check on the Latina principal. In that school, only eleven children made it to school that day.

ICE stopped busses at 6 different school bus stops on the border of Denver and Aurora.

They waited for parents to walk their kids to the bus stops, and then they started detaining the parents.

The bus drivers were told to lock the door and not let the kids who made it onto the busses out.

We attempted to scan a glossy photo on a home scanner, and the colors were weirdly oversaturated. I ended up carefully taking a photo of the other photo, and hopefully it is good enough.

@luckytran The pharmacist was happy with someone who I know for wearing his mask when he went to pick up his Paxlovid, which would suggest that some people who are in the contagious phase of COVID are not wearing masks to the pharmacy to pick up their meds. 🤦🏻♀️

@clarity This is interesting. To clarify, do you think this happens because of lack of acceptance in women-dominated spaces? I just figured the trans women hobbies overlapped more strongly with the male hobbies.

@arstechnica Maybe they shouldn't have been allowed to shake down patients before they could prove that it worked?

@thomasfuchs I think this discussion can be ableist, but there is a pattern of excusing people's bad behavior by speculating on their mental health issues like "What if that person who is abusive towards you is just suffering from some mental health issue."

And I am not sure how to stay off of both these paths because both are terrible.
