Open Source or Shut Down MastoMetrics?

Every day multiple people sign up for @mastometrics, but hosting is burning a hole in my pocket and I don't have much time to maintain it.

I'm open to cleaning up my code and making it self hostable as well as accepting code contributions. However, I still need donations to fund the free / flagship server.

I've not been super active on Mastodon, and @mastometrics is costing me too much ($100-200/mo) to operate. Donations are non-existent yet every month hundreds of people sign up.

I'm thinking of shutting it down – I've had no clear signals from users they'd be open to paid plans or requests for premium features.

This is a chance for the community and users to prove me wrong, otherwise I'll likely be shutting it down and maybe open sourcing the code.

@thomasreggi Should be oke when doing some output sanitization, you may not want to be the first person that set an AI free in the big wide world.

Any larger scale #Mastodon server admins or moderators that'd be interested in:
- automated flagging/reporting of posts on their instance
- an external UI with collaborative tools for moderating users and content
- custom policies and rules
- moderation decisions fed back into Mastodon

A friend is building moderation tools and considering a Mastodon integration!

I’m also interested to learn how big of a cost/burden moderation is for you.

@ravipatel I came from numpad, surprised how quickly I am able to hit the number bar keys instead. I chose the k1 because arrow keys are definitely something I'd miss and liked to be able to see some of the metal plate.

Overall a nice keyboard, still getting used to key offsets. Took the brown switches fwiw

After multiple years of resisting I caved and ordered a mechanical keyboard. Anytime someone posts their nice colorful setup my brain got annoyingly jealous so now I can finally endlessly tweak my setup myself 😄

Now onto the challenge of finding low profile compatible keycaps, any suggestions?

@gotosocial Understandable in most ways, but not great news for people that are hoping to continue using their favorite Mastodon compatible clients in the future.

GoToSocial’s headless approach (which I love) kind of requires compatibility with Mastodon Clients, but I fear GTS isn't big enough yet to sway clients into actively supporting different UIs depending of feature support.

Would you actively consider, discuss and evaluate future version, or do you want to branch off completely?
