Irenes (many) (irenes@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 10-Feb-2024 00:41:59 JST Irenes (many) @jdp23 @williampietri we must say it's extremely frustrating to us to see "protocols not platforms" being so closely associated with this hyper-individualist no-responsibility nonsense :(
because, like, there's also an important point about interoperability, which is what the slogan would seem to refer to on surface level

Irenes (many) (irenes@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 05-Feb-2024 05:38:52 JST Irenes (many) is kink-at-pride discourse going around again?
we've only seen the barest hints but we think we'll just offer this meme on the subject as a prophylactic

and convincing half a dozen people it's true ><

we cannot imagine any corporation paying for this, for long. it's easy to imagine an exec spending a single headcount on it for a year or two, but as soon as the storytelling starts to make a difference it will be cut for being insufficiently measurable
but we'd love to read fiction, even so

Irenes (many) (irenes@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 22-Jan-2024 08:57:09 JST Irenes (many) @abolisyonista queer pride is already the rebuttal to hate. hate doesn't have any ideas.
don't engage with hatred in ways that give that hatred a larger audience, or that allow it to set the terms of the discussion.
note that this isn't a direct answer; "debate" is a notion that means different things to different people, so we don't find it to be useful in formulating this kind of guideline.

Irenes (many) (irenes@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 07-Jan-2024 16:32:18 JST Irenes (many) @cube_drone @simon it's just, "AI" has been a marketing term, not a technical one, throughout that history. it has always led people to incorrect conclusions. more than once in the last 50 years, all funding for "AI" has dried up for a decade or so as a direct consequence of unrealistic expectations which were deliberately seeded, in part through the use of that term.

Irenes (many) (irenes@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 01-Jan-2024 22:55:26 JST Irenes (many) it's worth taking the time now and then to notice that phenomenon where, when a new thing is invented, we all have to be taught to want it, and therefore to find our current things inadequate
every once in a while you can see a case where the process breaks down - people don't want the new thing - but companies still try to move ahead
