I think my partner and I are dead on the inside.
We've been watching lists of upcoming things for 2025 and really the only thing that had both of us interested was Mickey 17. You'd think there would be something else out there and you'd be wrong.

Your governing political entity may try backing them up with state funds or or compel them to provide, but the state will bankrupt itself on payouts just as surely as the insurers will or, for the latter, the premiums will be so high you won't be able to afford the insurance.
The only places you will be able to offer affordable insurance are places that are so safe they won't need it.
It's going to be real interesting what happens then.
I think the total collapse of the insurance sector is going to be interesting. Insurance, at the best of time, was always a crap-pile with people who are plainly disincentivized from paying you out. That was the base point.
The thing is, with all these natural disasters that are only going to pick up in frequency and severity and repetition, there *is no way* for them to pay everyone out. They can't. There's not enough money. There's nothing you or anyone can do about this.
@FlashMobOfOne I came across two beagles tied to a lamp post, in a blizzard, a long time ago. I assumed they belonged to someone who went into a store or something but they were still there more than an hour later.
It was awkward hours and the one person I could speak to at the city told me it was a problem that would solve itself.
I hate people.
@madeindex We unfortunately get what we deserve from our politicians.
Protip: The government, yes any level of government, is 100% able to build affordable rental units at whatever scale it likes so that all of us can benefit from the kind of cost of living Vienna has.
Protip 2: The reason the government does every other scheme you can think of is because they are the landlord class, and represent the wealthy, so they want to do whatever drives up the cost of living while saying, out loud, they are doing the opposite of deliberately driving up the cost of living.
@FlashMobOfOne What's KC? Forgive an ignorant man from New France.
When I was growing up, there would already be snow on the ground that would last until spring in my part of the mountains. Not a lot but a bit and that would be by Halloween.
It takes a Polar Vortex to give my region the winters it used to have by default, thirty years ago.
A thing that really bothered my parents for the longest time, and probably still bothers them though they do not bring it up so much anymore, is that I don't really share photos with them. They don't like that because they don't have anything to share with their friends or on their social media.
When asked why?
It's because I don't want things being shared with their friends or on social media. It used to bother me as a kid too but I stopped that as soon as I was old enough to stop it.
@csstrowbridge @AnarchoNinaWrites The idea that the Liberal Party of Canada thinks of progressives as anything other than a threat that needs to be driven into the sea, is the kind of laugh that people pay comedians to make happen.
The LPC would rather you vote Conservative than dignify the progressives; it's why Canadians have the status quo they have today.
When I see a freezing rain warning about the region of Montreal, and the little freezing rain graphic is way up there halfway to Québec City, does that mean the whole region in red is at risk or mostly just up where the symbol is?
Google meanwhile tells me there's probably going to be some light snow in the area and rain only tomorrow?
Weather is magic and hard to predict, I get it. Thoughts?
It's amazing how much more I blame Trudeau and the Liberals and Biden and his Democrats for the misfortunes of North America than I do our respective Devils.
You are supposed to govern in everyone's best interests and make their lives obviously much better. You are not supposed to be such neoliberal shittier political waste that you drive people, willingly and openly, into the arms of the fascists. That was your job and you failed and you're going to get people killed because of it.
Fuck you.
I think Israel's greatest innovation is convincing the world that "LOOK AT WHAT YOU MADE ME DO YOU BITCH" is cool, actually, and not something to worry about.
"Patrick, it sounds like you're calling the God of the Bible incompetent or lazy or maybe even evil, like, how dare you presume to know?"
I think that's covered in the first bit with the fruit.
A God who can't even be assed to give a definitive master text that It is willing to back up, is a God that has no self-respect. It is also a God that does not care about your salvation.
I suppose Islam gets it right because the Koran is written on gold plates in Heaven. Other than not caring enough to prove itself right while you are alive and it would count.
Imagine a God that mostly thought it was fine that people are usually just the same religion as their parents?
Fuck.
Badly run show.
A thing that scares me sometimes is what if Christianity were largely true? What if there was a God who damned everyone for learning the difference between good and evil because It was afraid they might live forever? What if that God arbitrarily changed Its mind? What if It primarily communicated through half-assed books that were just left around sorta, and you had to be saved by just guessing right?
Imagine if all that bullshit were just good enough to God and God thought that was fine? Fuck.
Every now and then I think of the Remembrance Day article written by Nora Loreto and I get angry, in a good way, at bad people. Her work has that effect on me. I wish there were more like her.

Does anyone else remember when there was a gang rape of a prisoner in Israel and it got posted to social media and then there were pro gang rape of prisoner riots, to support rapists, and nobody anywhere cared about this at all and still doesn't?
I think that's the news story of the year, up with the US government admitting to running antivax propaganda in the Philippines to get them to stop using effective Chinese vaccines.
This is #America and it's run by #Democrats and #Republicans in #2024
@hannu_ikonen Right?
Whatever amount of death that it takes to make the hideous massive wholesale murderous system go away, is likely entirely justifiable; that doesn't have to be just CEOs either, but shareholders, and any politician who has ever taken a bribe/PAC/donation to keep health care privatized et cetera.
It's weird that people are not willing to murder murderers in self-defense. Do they not love themselves? Do they not love the innocent who are going to die without help?
I am not American, so this is really very bad news. The only thing that keeps me safe from the predation of the United States or its favoured allies, is that some kind of retaliation is possible.
Balance of power is a good thing.
You don't want to be in a position where America or its allies, can like a bully punch you in the face with your own arm while they say they have the right to defend themselves.
All while starving you to death in a Melian Famine.
Life is a preposterous horror.Money speaks for money, the devil for his ownWho comes to speak for the skin and the bone? The law locks up the man or womanWho steals the goose off the commonBut leaves the greater villain looseWho steals the common from the goose.Une oasis d'horreur dans un désert d'ennui.
