@vonExplaino Yeah! I was trying to figure out how to change that link, so will play around with it some more! Got any idea where I'd change that in ClassicPress? Classicpress is basically a fork of Wordpress. I'd like that link to go to my site map, actually!
If you're wondering if the #Accessibility landscape is getting better, years ago, I at least would have clients that worked on stuff. Worked on labels, code, things like that. Today, almost all of my clients don't want to care. What I mean by this is I often invoice for 2 hour consultation on why this new AI thing they added to their website isn't working. They come back with, we changed our AI toolbar, does it work now? When I include resources on web accessibility by experts, they come back with, but are these really experts if they don't even recommend us tools to do this right?
Lately, my private invoice notes look like this. The below is from a few weeks ago.
Spent three hours with this client explaining that not everybody has the same disability, nor the same computer. We all don't use the same screen readers or adaptive tech, either. Client seemed utterly baffled as to the fact Disabled users use more than one adaptive software/hardware. Had to stop myself from ranting about accessibility overlays because I’d have to invoice her four hours like I did with that other client. I don't know what is happening, but why do I feel like clients caring is changing. Maybe I'm just getting old. Must figure out how to make my Fediverse followers send me cookies. Also thinking about leaving the accessibility industry if this client comes back with yet another laundry lists of accessibility, sorry, a11y, toolbars to try. Also thinking about changing this private note to a public description so the client can see. I want to have chocolate. Who on the Fediverse can give me cookies for this very tough conversation. This client just doesn’t want to get sued. Thinking about switching sides and suing her myself. I don't really mean that, but I'm tired.
If you have a website with neo cities, just know that the creator actually likes AI, and will add it again based on this post alone. Moratorium on freaking out about AI https://kyledrake.com/writings/ai
I’m trying @librewolf browser and it might seem like a small thing to you all, but they went out of their way to preserve accessibility features for disabled users like myself, whereas other privacy solutions remove accessibility features completely, and their efforts to make sure disabled users have a private focused but accessible browser is more welcome than you can imagine because disabled people need privacy as well. I would argue that disabled people need privacy more. I wish more #privacy advocates took accessibility and disability into account the way they have currently. I hope this remains a core mission of theirs
LOL! So a few blindness higher ups want me to speak at their library events about the use of #AI and how it could enhance the lives of Disabled people, so I go through the song and dance, arranging payment, not at all hiding the fact I am very critical of AI in the disability space because I assume they read my blog by now, but then they come back and say things like, you didn't tell the internet you are actually against AI, to which I send them 5 blog posts where I critically talk about AI and they are always like but we didn't know this!
Pro tip for others. Read my blog, not just social media. That's what my website is for, after all.
Sadly, after they realized I am critical of AI and especially #AIHype they did not get in touch with me to continue the speaking presentation engagement, so this means that no payment changed hands, and I did not get to talk about the more critical aspects that disabled people really should be paying attention to regarding these large language models, such as, the profit driven nature of all of these models. The capital investments that went into these models that are being used in apps like Be my Eyes. The discriminatory side effects of mass deploying these large language models in the workplace, especially in terms of entry-level positions, the privacy and ethical concerns, not to mention, the environmental concerns as well. In short, i’m available for presentations.

There needs to be a word for this kind of off-line #Inshittification. It’s not quite leaking money out of people, but it perfectly illustrates why this online culture is toxic. I just witnessed a younger person in their 20s trying to make a transaction over the phone. The representative, assuming that they were tech savvy, kept insisting that they do it online. The younger person kept telling them that They weren’t very good with technology so could they do this over the phone, because she got confused by the ads and by them not clearly displaying which was a transaction for the ad and which was a transaction tied to the website. The website basically had a bunch of dark patterns that would lead users to input their credit card numbers and pay for a thing they did not want to pay for. The representative was incredulous because younger people are supposed to be good with technology so why couldn’t she just do this online. This person is younger than I am. I kind of wish that we Quit painting senior citizens as tech illiterate because the more that I see younger people struggling with technology, the more I think about ageism and what that says about society and #Accessibility

@annika I think this is by design and will continue. These companies don’t want you to use the Internet while logged out. They want your data. They want your account data. I never appreciated the freedom technology like RSS can really bring until recently when I can’t even view media while logged out of websites anymore
