I don’t know about you but for myself, if my choice is to feel like absolute dogshit for the rest of my life, vs feeling basically normal, that’s a pretty powerful incentive. I simply would rather not have to deal with the former if I can help it.
This isn’t to say it’s “equal” to rationality, but it’s obviously a valid factor.
