If I may interject, what you refer to as blocking is actually the process of defederation. This is a client to client, node to node link within the multitude of nodes that compose the entire fediverse becoming voluntarily severed. It completely modifies the experience of the fediverse for both users in such a way their content streams, conversations and quality of service may be impacted.
