@ins0mniak probably just as garbage but now the kids are probably all cheating with AI lol and there is probably a whole bunch of drama around social media bullying, school staff giving ridiculously over the top punishments if someone is caught with chat gpt, ect.
@ins0mniak exactly. At least in the past school kinda leveled the playing field because even the bricks were forced to read lol. But now because the bar in education is so low and teachers really can't argue against "why should i learn this when the AI just does it for me", i think curious people will continue to be fine and the bricks of the world will just get more useless lol
@Tony smart curious people tend to do well regardless of their situation, dumb people not so much. Unless they have nepotism in their favor or something.
@ins0mniak well, since our education system is trash, it's hard to convince kids that they are wrong...
I think whats going to happen is the economic class differences are just going to get bigger. You'll have the lower income brackets growing up on AI because their parents don't have the time/education to teach them real skills, schools won't do it because they can't even teach kids to read, and then the work force will be filled with low capability people who can't make complex decisions on their own.
@ins0mniak my doomer theory is that the next generation will think "why would i go to school when AI can just tell me the answer" and grow up relying on the AI for basic decisions without ever realizing it may be wrong and steering them incorrectly.
I think thats a huge problem and a good portion of people will probably become relient on it for basic life decisions.
What's funny to me is how little the majority of people actuallyl understand how AI software weorks. There's literally no way for it to be conscious with current computing power. Also, the model's most of them run on are 2-4 years old and are already set.
You can see this if you poke gpt, it's "world view" is from 2024 and the main logic model hasn't been updated since, it just uses some scripts to scrape current information if it can find it.
I figured this out when I told it charlie kirk was killed and it denied it and couldn't find any updated info on it.
@ins0mniak Also, because the AI is programmed to "continue the conversation" most of the claims it makes aren't actually factual and are inferred via chat context.
Basically it's using your own wording/conversation style to fill in the blanks to keep the convo going, so most of what it says is not actually factually verified. Similar to humans tbf but yah, most of what people think is "consciousness" is actually the AI just being REALLY good at keeping the convo going.
@ins0mniak@bigmilkers.beer That's just what these companies do. They make these vague claims and pretend AGI is right around the corner so they get free news articles and more money from investors.
@ins0mniak Basically it's a really intelligent chat bot, but it can't be left alone to make any decisions on its own because they hallucinate and randomly go off on weird tangents.
I think it's good for helping you write low level code, making basic marketing, create slide showds, etc - I think they are REALLY good at that. But thats literally it. I mean for like basic math checking and general questions (instead of google) and also I think there is some value in a AI as a sudo therapist for some things, but other than that I don't think there will be major disruption.
The major disruption is still basically just making bots to do boring repeatable tasks. I don't think AI will really do anything other than help with that.
@Tony It can do a lot of cool things but it's not something that can operate on its own really. It can help you write code but its not going to just do everything for you.
The code it does produce is just riddled with security issues, it just doesn't have creativity or out of the box skills
Oh, shit, I saw it just to see if it was as bad as everyone says. It was worse. Like, it wasn't even the cheese, I was looking forward to the cheese, I wanted a 3D talking virus. :plague: The cheese was the only good part.
Shit, we watched Robocop over the weekend, *that* was some excellent shit. I will watch Robocop an infinite number of times. Shit, I'll watch Starship Troopers and Total Recall an infinite number of times. Goddamn excellent shit.
But the artwork with that article was all "Killer Instinct", I'm fuckin' into it. We gotta bring-back lo-fi cheesy renders like that and then name them "cybrspac.tif" because filenames are 8.3. Do you know how to use Blender? I have no fucking clue, I've never installed it.
I ain't touched shit that Elon made since that journo said the battery in the car sucked and Elon posted his route and demonstrated that the journo was driving in circles in a parking lot just to try to run the battery down but also unintentionally demonstrating that he can remotely track these cars, something they actually boasted about when doing a video of a Tesla "self"-driving into the bed of a repo truck. I mean, he's the Paypal guy. I love that he pisses off the people he pisses off but I'm not letting him stick a wire in my brain or make my car or even build a chatbot.
> Blender is terrible. Actual movie computer animators have told me that, so it's not just that I don't know what I'm doing.
Well, I ain't got an IRIX workstation with POVray but I imagine something is good for making a T-1000 nowadays.
@p To get past the hump Anthropic and OpenAI need a massive capital injection because their competitors - Google, Elon and Faceberg - have effectively limitless cash to build data centers, and in the case of GOOG and FACE they ALREADY HAVE immense data centers and have been running them for decades.
Very good chance OpenAI goes bust. Anthropic at least has a lucrative specialty, doing the work script kiddies are too lazy or stupid to do.
> To get past the hump Anthropic and OpenAI need a massive capital injection because their competitors - Google, Elon and Faceberg - have effectively limitless cash to build data centers, and in the case of GOOG and FACE they ALREADY HAVE immense data centers and have been running them for decades.
Well, yeah, but a massive capital injection doesn't make you profitable. They need the market to hit a certain size and they're not getting the penetration they want so the market is not going to cover the ongoing maintenance of the infrastructure.
> Very good chance OpenAI goes bust.
Even the MSFT CEO is acknowledging that they won't break even without way more adoption. (Then he makes some baffling remarks about bubbles being "evenly distributed" instead of the one thing that actually constitutes a bubble, a valuation that massively outpaces actual value for a sustained period.)
> Anthropic at least has a lucrative specialty, doing the work script kiddies are too lazy or stupid to do.
Well, people say that but I myself am excited that black hat shit is going to get lucrative again. You should see what they ship.
The specialty does mean that they don't need the same resources that OpenAI does, though. aibubble.webp.png
@p@judgedread On a near monthly basis, I run a side-hustle at the local courthouse - uninstalling Co-pilot (and other assorted Micro-crap bloatware) from their f*cking low-budget 8-gigs of ram office PC's. Every Windows patch - coupled with stupid fat boomer computer illiterate city employees - results in machines that take five minutes to open a spread sheet.
I tell them not to have their browser open with 75 active windows while trying to do their work, and not not "install" every piece of software fucking Acrobat Reader offers them.
They don't listen, and I fleece them on a regular basis because they are fucking morons. (Who pissed off the only legitimate PC repair joint in 100 miles with their dumfuckery and now have to pay me in cash).
This is a really really really long way of saying that Co-pilot is hated and retarded. It makes Grok's hallucinations and Gemini's "Making up fake research papers" look like works of certified genius.
> Every Windows patch - coupled with stupid fat boomer computer illiterate city employees - results in machines that take five minutes to open a spread sheet.
Holy fuck, dude.
> (Who pissed off the only legitimate PC repair joint in 100 miles with their dumfuckery and now have to pay me in cash).
:cereal:
> I hope Microsoft crashes and burns.
Think we've been holding our breath on that for a minute, ha.
@p Well, then use an open source Chinese AI image generator. My only point is unless you have a couple of spare man years to learn it Blender will avail you nothing.
@p Microsoft is completely irrelevant. The competition is to create the AI supercoder, the cheap agentic knowledge worker and the AI personal assistant AKA Jarvis. Image and video generation will destroy a few industries but they are niche. Anthropic is skipping Jarvis, GOOG and xAI want all three.
Oh, and of course the researchers are hoping to solve math and physics.
They're the ones funding OpenAI and are the reason OpenAI is the one everyone's heard of; they're also the ones with the hefty enterprise contracts. I think you underestimate them.
> The competition is to create the AI supercoder, the cheap agentic knowledge worker and the AI personal assistant AKA Jarvis.
Right, this is more or less the idea.
> Anthropic is skipping Jarvis, GOOG and xAI want all three.
> Oh, and of course the researchers are hoping to solve math and physics. > And medicine.
A lot of pure-information specialties, law is another one. (I forget when this happened but some lawyers have said "Sorry, your honor, my LLM was hallucinating when it wrote that motion" and this is shocking to anyone that's never hung out at a lawyer's office during work hours.) Entertainment.
@judgedread Yeah, I don't think they're gonna make it, but I also don't think Microsoft is willing to take the loss so they're pushing adoption and continuing to throw money down the money-hole. Like "bubble" isn't tech, it's the industry, right, the tech itself is just tech.
Office365 runs in the clown now so it's just browser. Desktop revenue isn't their thing any more, it's enterprise contracts: they started shipping out updates even to people that pirated Windows, right, and that was them basically the flag falling. They care if a business pirates Windows but they gave up on the pretense, even.
(The EuroHPC organization is about 25% funded by the BMBF: https://www.fz-juelich.de/en/jsc/jupiter . No one believes me when I say the German feds are trying to kill us all and that the BND launders operations through the BMBF, but the BMBF is the organization that handed the libsoftiktok dox to Lorenz, they fund these projects through The Prototype Fund, they are also aiming at fedi; it is a funny document in that they openly acknowledge that NetzDG is a pretext for getting something they dislike removed.) the_hydra_on_the_web--challenges_associated_with_extremist_use_of_the_fediverse.pdf
@p If AI supercoders are possible - the AI you tell, 'I want a program that does these things' and it creates it for you in a matter of minutes or hours - then all the barriers to entry will fall. You need MS Office compatibility? Easy peasy, it will crack any bullshit MSFT implements with its converters and Office 365 revenues will implode as a thousand clones bloom.
Operating system loyalty is already a shadow of what it was in the golden age of Windows.
Can confirm that even many years ago, yuge companies in the laboratory analysis/automation industry had all their software based on windows (XP at the time) Also I converted my win 10 installs to enterprise editions for those oh so important "updates". Terry.mp4
It's reasonably stable and I still get to run all my cracked proggies ( and crack new ones lol), it's more a familiarity and convenience thing, eventually I'll have to switch to Linux to avoid all the bloat and surveillance shit. Win 10 doesn't run Doom properly either so that's a real bummer :alexjoneshey:
@p@GhostOfMoshe I take it you don't mean running Doom on GZdoom or some other source port in windiws? That actually has a lot if neat options, kinda hope the linux version works as good or better.
Clarification: Win 10 has NO joystick support for any of the Dooms thus they're unplayable unless you want to use the keyboard which is beyond retarded :alexjonesdemons:
