     The word magic has run its course. Now there is only money and blackmail, and without Americans having some kind of sympathy for them, money and blackmail will keep engendering more and more resentment. So yeah, Levin and Shapiro and the rest are starting to yell and stamp their feet in angry frustration. The control they enjoyed is slipping through their fingers, and there's no practical way for them to get it back.
     
     The only thing they could do to stop the building resentment among Americans (stop the killing in Gaza, stop trying to control so much of the politics in the US, stop being so pushy and arrogant, trying to integrate into their host population, etc.) simply isn't going to happen. Serious self reflection and general humility seems like it's impossible on a genetic level.

     @Charles_in_Charge the A/B model has worked well since I think the 60s, but to understand the limits, you need to realize *why* it worked.
     
     Pulling in such a large amount of foreigners who have no interested in assimilating and now actively say "no, actually you have to change, you owe us" is the main trigger which is making that model no longer effective.
     
     It's pushing people to the right as they realize their boutique positions are not what matters compared to being obliterated by a 18 wheeler driven by a foreigner who can't read a US road sign.

     The #legacyofabuse schools are still open *to this day*. This isn't 'stuck in the past' stuff -- people who went to those schools are still part of our current political context. It was only 2 elections ago that Tristan Durocher was arrested for having a hunger strike to address northern mental health crisis. It was only 1 election ago that we finally changed the child welfare system to keep 'sixties scoop' style abuse in the child welfare system from happening under another name. Right now our government has a policy of kidnapping [mostly natives] and incarcerating them for being high in the wrong place at the wrong time. This will certainly be abused, but the details for this haven't come out yet *because it's still happening*.
     
     We have a long way to go before the residential schools and the harm they caused cease to be currently relevant, and it's not 'living in the past' to acknowledge this.
