@Kickingbadger7@Terry I hope it won't go this far. Israel and the US have this mistaken belief almost any war can be won from the skies and every time the US has put boots on the ground, a decade or two later, after a lot of money and lives invested, we eventually leave.
@Terry AND SEEING AS WARS ARE ONLY EVER WON WITH BOOTS ON THE GROUND WHILE IRAN IS A GUERILLA MOUNTAIN CLUSTERFUCK -- I DOUBT IT CAN POSSIBLY BE A PYRRHIC VICTORY
IT WOULD BE A POINTLESS QUAGMIRE WITH NO PROGRESS, ANOTHER SAIGON HELICOPTER MOMENT, AND THEN USA WILL GO THE WAY OF ITS YOUNGER BROTHER THE USSR
People were saying that back in 2003. It's even less likely now. A draft would fragment the country in irreversible ways. There are enough people on all sides of politics who will not go to war for Israel.
Imagine images or footage of a US carrier sinking in the Persian Gulf hitting Xwitter as all the interventionalist neolibs cope and scream that they're fake AI generations.
It will be just like Bush Jr's neocon war where we just destroy every political party, create a bunch of terrorists due to mass incompetence, leave the place a shattered mess ... if Iran is smart, they'll prepare to set all the oil wells on fire before the collapse.
America realizes the competency crisis was far worse than projected the hard way: With costly losses of blood and treasure during a military misadventure undertaken on behalf of Israel.
I don't think the average American really appreciates how big Iran is. It ain't some rinky dink sand state like the others we've knocked over in recent history, it's a far different animal. It has a landmass close to ~20% of the continental United States, and a population that's ~25% the size of Americas.
@BobsonDugnuttHB@Bunsen@Terry Even a bombing campaign is going to be tougher than ever for American pilots. Not saying they won't work because I'm sure they have many tricks up their sleeves but I doubt the efficiency. There are so many mountains in Iran. Pretty big ones. Iran has prepared for this with excellent radar coverage and air defense. What is even more important is that they have so many underground facilities. Like entire cities underground with missiles. The only thing I hope comes out of this is Iran seeking a nuclear bomb if they get attacked and they develop one quickly.
@Hoss@Sovereign@BobsonDugnuttHB@Terry The average American also probably underestimates how powerful Iran is - more so now that Russia is backing them.
Russia's been getting laughed at for throwing troops at a bloody war of attrition the past few years. America invading Iran would be Russia's chance to do the mocking as the tables begin to turn.
I can say for absolute certainty war with Iran cannot be achieved via naval or air power. It will be hell in Earth for whoever goes there. It's some of the most mountainous terrain on Earth with a near first world domestic military infrastructure and religiously devout fanatical followers who hate America.
@Orkin_Awk@Polfusilier@Terry I highly doubt this. I'd even bet on them not having anything like that. Only major states have the infrastructure to be able to manufacture them. Iran has been on the threshold for a while due to the number of centrifuges they have purifying uranium.
@Polfusilier@Terry The best thing Iran could do is mimic the porcupine strategy Russia uses against NATO. I would think not directly confronting Israeli and American planes. Rather just protecting their air assets when they aren't in a contested airspace. Whatever amount of air power they have it probably isn't enough to directly confront US forces. The US after all is a naval and air power unlike Russia and Iran.
I'm real tired of watching my fellow Amerimutts suck their own dicks over the near-mythical status of our military might. One terrible, bloody, expensive humbling is all it'll take to make the world police interventionism fans finally shut the fuck up for a generation.
@Hoss@BobsonDugnuttHB@Bunsen@Terry It is basically what is needed for us to stop obsessing with our military sector. Nobody is going to invade the US. We have enough guns to destroy anyone in a guerilla war type scenario. We have a parasitic relationship with the MIC. People look at how much we spend on the military and translate that into "we are the best!". It is mostly price gouging because there isn't real competition in the MIC.
The Pentagon hasn't been able to pass an audit for seven straight years, ever since they first started being mandated in 2017. Is there any other department of any other organization in the world that would keep being allowed to operate as usual after failing one audit, let alone seven?
@WandererUber@BobsonDugnuttHB@Bunsen@Terry@Hoss Somalia was a operation. Hardly a war AFAIK. The US has a long history of defeats. The best example was Vietnam. It took a long while for the US to get back into war after Vietnam and they did it as a non-draft military with only volunteers. Desert Storm was what really turbo boosted the thirst for war but before Desert Storm the US didn't get majorly involved for a while.
In the U.S., the best military leaders are either dead or retired. The military is inevitably going to crash, burn, and sink into irrelevance for a long time.
@Bunsen@Sovereign@BobsonDugnuttHB@Terry@Hoss This cannot happen because the world already does not respect the U.S. military. The reason the big powers ignore their nonsense is the nukes.
