  And that's what I've been really worried about: I go see what everyone's up to and I can't laugh at any of their jokes because every time, I stop to wonder: "Wouldn't this be funnier if one hundred times as many people were also laughing at it? If you write *anything*, then you have limited the audience to people that are literate in the language you have used, and if you write anything technical, that's another 90% of the population lopped off from the potential audience. The only thing with completely universal appeal is a picture of a boob. Even retards and babies like boobs. Why am I doing anything besides posting pictures of a boob?   It is not a surprise if they are shoving the "car bad" thing at people. Maybe they're using the same guy, I don't know. It's been a few years (I'd have to check the ctime on ~/src/youtube-dl) since I actually viewed that site directly.

  No, it came out of Konqueror. Apple picked it up for Safari, Google picked it up for Chrome, Brave uses it, even :edge: uses it now. It is still the only one that is available as a library, so you get luakit and Midori and uzbl, a lot of browsers based on it. (It probably should have been GPL'd.)

  After the mob harassed Mozilla into chasing Eich out of the company for spending Hate Dollars, he started Brave. (His real crime is "inventing JavaScript" but I don't think most of those people mind that he did this.) They have a token, the idea is that you can enable ads and the revenue is sent to the site you are viewing and a cut to Brave and the idea is that it can be done anonymously. That got them threats from Google, as the browser ships with adblockers but then allows you to opt-in to ads that the browser runs.
  
  I do not use Brave because its build process is even fuckeder than Firefox/Seamonkey, and because I think Gecko-but-the-next-one still does a better job of rendering text than Webkit, so I use (in rough order of frequency) very hacked Seamonkey, mothra, somewhat hacked Firefox with everything disabled that lives in a chroot, w3m, extremely hacked but also very old Firefox that lives in a chroot and has JavaScript disabled and mainly exists for a couple of extremely specialized uses, netsurf (Plan 9 version), lynx.

  I can't comment much on Brave Browser. People say it's a privacy focused browser, but I've seen some bullshit about embedded crypto in it and this kind of thing always makes me be wary of a project.

However, modern browsers are either made by companies who want all your data, or are sponsored by companies that want all your data, so privacy protection will never be a standard, or if it is, it won't be reliable.

I have no idea what Privacy Possum would do to screw them, tho.
  
  As for the ads, I'm not entirely sure of all the intricacies, but I'm pretty sure there is some sort of algorithm that checks click retention and shit like that, that may "rate" ads to determine how much they'll pay for click and even demonetizing ads/pages that serve only bogus clicks, to avoid stuff like botting. So it may hurt ad farm pages, but yeah, as you said, this is the kind of thing that would only really hurt if a lot of people started using it, kinda ddosing the ad servers.
  
  Either way, I guess I'll check them and install them on my home pc browser when I get back.

  It's probably easier to run a public Searx node than bother with "TrackMeNot". "WhatCampaign" is plausible, but all it would do is obscure a couple of metadata variables that, with normal browsing, usually stick around anyway.
  
  I never used Privacy Badger or Privacy Possum. I imagine it does not actually cost those companies much. Even if the analytics companies were structured such that fake data cost them money, these are companies that produce insights from oceans of data: they know how to tell the robot to flag suspicious behavior and disregard it.
  
  This stuff actually could work in big enough volume, like if you could DDoS Google Analytics. None of them are going to do that kind of volume.
