    30,000 Palestinians killed.

    — World leaders: “Israel has a right to defend itself.”

    7 international aid workers killed.

    — World leaders: “ISRAEL HAS GONE TOO FAR!”

If your moral values change depending on the nationality of the victims, you do not have any moral values.

    All you have is racism.

@randahl The situation in #Gaza is tragic, but after #Hamas (who was elected to power) attacked #Israel 🇮🇱 on October 7th, 2023, they committed the whole area to the blowback of war.

Hamas is (to put it bluntly) a genocidal organization that needs to be removed from power.

They are comparable to the #KKK & #IslamicState in brutality.

Until the 200+ hostages are released (including 6 Americans), the war will continue & #BenjaminNetanyahu will disappointedly remain in power.

@Jennifer @randahl That is the sad reality of the situation. As far as 30,000 death toll goes, I am skeptical about that stat for two reasons:

👉🏾 It is coming from Hamas’s health ministry who does not distinguish between combatants & non-combatants
👉🏾 We will not know the real death toll due to it being urban warfare, until most of the fighting subsides (the figure could be much higher)

I wish the civilians were temporarily evacuated beforehand, but I digress.

@darnell @randahl it's not really fair to say Hamas was elected and implying the people there chose this since the last election was in 2006. I agree about Hamas being a terrorist organization, and agree they should release the hostages, but a lot of people getting killed and starved weren't even alive in 2006 and have had no say in what hamas is doing. Israel is out of control and needs to be stopped from committing even more war crimes.

@Jennifer @randahl 🙄 Then what is your realistic solution for removing a genocidal organization who happens to double as a governmental power‽

Hamas intentionally hides amongst civilians, along with their weapon depots & terrorist bases.

War is an ugly affair, & no country would tolerate the existence of a genocidal terrorist group at the expense of their own citizens. That is a political reality.

@darnell @randahl people are starting to starve. The current death toll is probably a guess, but it's not a guess to say many more people are about to die from lack of food because Israel has blocked all aid. I consider that a war crime. It's disgusting what they're doing, they are behaving no better than Hamas.

@mycotropic @Jennifer @randahl Israel 🇮🇱 is fighting a genocidal terrorist organization who purposely embeds themselves within the civilian population in Gaza.

Civilian deaths will obviously be in the thousands, but until Hamas is destroyed or the hostages are returned the war will continue. That is reality.

"In an unprecedented move, according to two of the sources, the army also decided during the first weeks of the war that, for every junior Hamas operative that Lavender marked, it was permissible to kill up to 15 or 20 civilians; in the past, the military did not authorize any “collateral damage” during assassinations of low-ranking militants."

      https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/

That's genocidal, it's not up to us to determine a "realistic" approach for Israel to take to end a terrorist threat, it's up to them to do it and do it in a way that doesn't involve genocide.

@Dinger @randahl Israel 🇮🇱 is fighting a war against a genocidal organization in an urban area, so civilians being killed is tragic, but unexpected.

Israel 🇮🇱 is not firing indiscriminately en mass at civilian areas (if that were the case the death toll would be in the hundreds of thousands).

To compare & contrast, you can look up the conflict in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 against the Tigrays, where 600,000 were killed. https://www.thenationalnews.com/world/africa/2023/01/16/tigray-death-toll-could-be-as-high-as-600000-african-union-envoy-says/

@darnell @Dinger @randahl i have read a few articles from Israel pointing to the passive and active support Netanyahu’s folks lent Hamas. @sb @randahl Hamas clearly stated in their 1988 charter their genocidal intentions for Israel 🇮🇱. They are savage terrorist organization who in their own words wishes death upon Israelis: https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2023/10/hamas-covenant-israel-attack-war-genocide/675602/

They currently run the government of Gaza, & their attack on October 7th was an act of war. Intentially raping & burning civilians (including infants & toddlers) is evil, & no government would tolerate that attack on their citizens.

@darnell @mycotropic @randahl it will be impossible to destroy Hamas, and every day this continues will only ensure there are more recruits. This is also making the US less secure because we'll be the target for supporting war crimes. I mean I'm not an expert in this, how should I know. I've long thought what's going on there is unsolvable because everyone involved is so resistant to compromise. But I want to withhold $ and weapons until Israel allows in unrestricted food and medical aid.

@MisuseCase @Jennifer @mycotropic @randahl Retrieving hostages is not an easy, peasy, text book solution. It is difficult & soldiers often only have limited information.

As far as those tunnels go, they usually fill them with sea water after they have been cleared of terrorists (yes, soldiers & to my knowledge military land drones enter those tunnels & fight terrorists inside).

@darnell @Jennifer @mycotropic @randahl The hostages are in those tunnels Hamas has built, but the IDF doesn’t know exactly where. The IDF has been flooding the tunnels with seawater which endangers the hostages as much as it does Hamas.

      https://www.timesofisrael.com/idf-confirms-flooding-hamas-tunnels-in-gaza-with-seawater/

And there was that time the IDF shot three hostages who escaped on their own. Getting the hostages back does not seem to be as high on their list as killing Gazans.
