The new pointless hoarding makes me mad, I'm probably going to North Carolina next week to volunteer and was planning to go get a bunch of bottled water and TP from Costco to take to people in an actual disaster area but they probably don't have any left 😡 This is from a local news station. @sunguramy look at this! #Hoarding#HurricaneHelene
@Tharpa I think the period after the election will be really unpleasant, but hopefully she'll win by a big enough margin that it will be fine. I'm concerned that so many people actually support him, if we had a healthy democracy the polls would be like 70/30. That doesn't bode well for the next election, they may find someone just as bad but who doesn't come off as a disgusting narcissist. Ug.
So. I live in Tennessee. All my elected officials are Republicans who deny climate change is real. A bunch of them surveyed the flooding damage from the climate change fueled hurricane and said how awful it is, while still denying humans cause climate change. Oh, and they enthusiastically support a presidential candidate who will dismantle NOAA, NHC, FEMA, and the federal flood insurance program. They're all such power hungry suck ups who don't care about actual citizens. #HurricaneHelene
Yesterday I read that 700 Tennessee National Guards just left to spend a year in Kuwait. Why isn't the regular military doing that deployment? The national guard should be to support national and state issues, like, I don't know, catastrophic flooding in their own state...
I just noticed the dumbasses down the street who installed a ginormous flagpole just in time for the January 6 riot now has an upside down American flag on the flagpole in addition to all the Trump yard signs. I bet they are going to drive to DC to participate in coup attempt 2.0. #uspol
@jeff@mjf_pro@tchambers another argument I'm seeing is "Harris already has enough money" or "corporations will give her all the money she needs" so we should give our campaign donations to mutual aid instead. I totally disagree with that sentiment, we can do both. I think it's gross how much money it requires to win elected office and I would definitely prefer to give money to help people instead of politicians, but we have to deal with what we have.
People who are criticizing donating to the Harris campaign because "all politicians are the same" and "political donations are dumb" are starting to annoy me. One reason I made a donation is because if Trump wins again he is going to gut protections for ALL marginalized groups, including establishing “male/female” from birth on the federal level. Giving $ to her campaign helps prevent that. Many of us who donated to Harris also help with mutual aid. #Mastodon4Harris https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/how-a-second-trump-presidency-could-impact-the-lgbtq-community
I phone banked during the 2008 primary and wasn't very good at it. I just found this, writing postcards is something I will be good at, especially since I can describe the hellscape of descending into a Republican controlled state. I just ordered 300 postcards. #USPol#Volunteering https://www.turnoutpac.org/postcards/
