     And, I still don't know that it's true, just that it's an idea someone has that king Terru could be Terah. But even if it is true, why doesn't the story of Abraham mention that his dad was a king?
     
     Regardless, quoting one of the most famous bits of the ten commandments to me (which obviously I've heard before) doesn't answer my question.

     Oh, and xians are suddenly the majority? You can't even agree on a common concept, so why else are there 88+ different xian sects, all of which have a different interpretation? And what about the other religions - are they all wrong and only you have the truth for yourselves?
     The truth is that it's the other way around. The sheeple are running away in droves from the churches because they have recognized the absurdity of this whole story.

     To address that: how many went to church just because it was the thing to do? That meme of Homer Simpson sleeping through services is based on a well-known reality. Eventually, even many pastors got to writing boring, bland sermons just enough to flesh out an hour.
     
     To my (admittedly external) view, Christianity needs to rewrite itself. If Jesus is the main figure of the religion, then his word should be enough. Drop the Old Testament, drop everything in the New Testament apart from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Drop that "lineage to King David" and every other obvious jewish hijacking. What you have left is a religion for living in harmony with yourself, other people, and the world around you.

     The problem, as I see, it how many times the bible has been rewritten and edited over the millennia. Everyone has their own perspective, every translation gets it own slight cultural spin, and every subsequent pile of bible nerds argues over details much in the same manner as comic book nerds arguing over whether Superman or The Flash is faster. Another, far more pertinent point, is how many so-called Christians fail to focus on, and live up to the teachings of, the one person in their bible that supercede all others.

     I fail everyday.
     You're right, Christianity is in very sad shape. It did not adapt well to the industrial, and post-industrial age, and strong men left the churches, leaving it to women and fools. My farmer grandfathers and their contemporaries pretty much all went to church. The sermons weren't very deep, addressing issues of moral living, not about the stuff we discuss here. But the church was heart of the community, strengthening social bonds. My father's generation did not go to church very often. Working a job rather than at home on a farm changed how guys viewed Sundays. I don't think they realized how silly churches became in their absence.

     It's still a question I would like answered:
     Since everyone descended from Adam and Eve, so they all knew about God, and "Zeus" just means "god" why is it so offensive to consider the various ancient forms of storm god worship as God worship? Maybe they were doing it wrong, but it looks like they were trying.
     
     However, I think I'll get more rational answers from Pagans about it than these flat headed Christians.
     
     (Sarcasm) But remember kids: We only believe in one God .... and also his son, and the Holy Spirit, but there's only one God. Plus angels, and Satan, and demons. And everyone dies, except Elijah, who was carried off in a flaming chariot. And there's invisible spiritual warfare going on all around us. But don't you dare say that Genesis sounds remarkably similar to all other ancient mythology, with genealogy going back to supernatural beings. The jews are right, Abraham is their genetic ancestor, and he literally lived 175 years.
     
     If I can understand Revelation is a very artistic description of the war in 70 AD, and still be a Christian, then I can understand Genesis is a bit fanciful too. Jerry Falwell style Bible reading isn't helping bring intelligent men back to the church, it's driving them to atheism and Paganism.
