You're right, Christianity is in very sad shape. It did not adapt well to the industrial, and post-industrial age, and strong men left the churches, leaving it to women and fools. My farmer grandfathers and their contemporaries pretty much all went to church. The sermons weren't very deep, addressing issues of moral living, not about the stuff we discuss here. But the church was heart of the community, strengthening social bonds. My father's generation did not go to church very often. Working a job rather than at home on a farm changed how guys viewed Sundays. I don't think they realized how silly churches became in their absence.
