@Xenophon@blankdeblank@Will2Power longer answer is...I wonder if there are some important lessons we (in a general sense) are ignoring that although maybe not strictly necessary for our salvation might promote salvation in general...protestants disregarding Tobit for instance...is that part of an explanation for the degeneracy and abortion rates of today...or historically is the arian heresy the reason so many Christian kingdoms and cities fell to the Muslims...
I don't know people split hairs so much it's kind of silly no offence. God loves you and he loves what you look like and he even loves your race and doesn't want you to destroy yourself or lessen who you are. Because he loves you and everything about you is that not good enough ?
@Xenophon@Will2Power I don't know what that means...are you saying Enoch isn't a part of a canonical list of apocrypha...or just that Enoch isn't one you believe...
Its hard to answer without soumding like im making excuses, but i guess i am. IF this is actually the words of Enoch, the thing is, we have no idea of knowing what God showed him or why. What I mean is, its clear the Jesus referred to himself as the son of God, but for the reason I explained (as well as others) He actually must also BE God. God is one. He appears in many more than 3 forms, so its just a human construct to imagine this "triune" God instead of the one infinite God.
46 seems like it is describing Yahweh God but also Jesus, but Jesus is God. How do I know Enoch could comprehend this, especially without know what or why Jesus would be?
@Xenophon@Will2Power Ok...so I asked if you would interpret it differently or ignore it...your answer is more a third route where you are saying this could even be Enoch's actual vision but it is too much even for him and us to interpret it...for this thread I'm more interested in people's reaction to the apocrypha rather than debating any particular point (trinitarianism in this example or michael=Jesus heresy above)...
@Xenophon@Will2Power According to the internet the book of watchers ends at Enoch 36. But there is maybe this verse within it in Enoch 10:1
1 Then said the Most High, the Holy and Great One spake, and sent Uriel to the son of Lamech,
or in a different online version
1 Then the most high declared, and the Great Holy One spoke.
I imagine the 3 fold or two fold sort of name repetitions in The Bible don't convince you generally, so I don't see this one from the book of watchers winning you over. More just interested in your thoughts on the more explicit kind of language like in those chapters of enoch that are just after the book of watchers.
So i dont think these are just outright forgeries, like its all or nothing. I think its probably a retelling or interpolation of something that was legitimate, so you have to compare it to what you know is true to search for the truth in it
@Xenophon@Will2Power So I'm assuming then that in your view my interpretation of the Chapter 46 passage for instance is in conflict with what you already believe to be true...so would you look for /come to another interpretation of those words or read around it???
1 And there I saw One who had a head of days, And His head was white like wool, And with Him was another being whose countenance had the appearance of a man, And his face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels. 2 And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things, concerning that 3 Son of Man, who he was, and whence he was, (and) why he went with the Head of Days? And he answered and said unto me: This is the son of Man who hath righteousness, With whom dwelleth righteousness, And who revealeth all the treasures of that which is hidden,
Because the Lord of Spirits hath chosen him, And whose lot hath the pre-eminence before the Lord of Spirits in uprightness for ever.
@Xenophon@Will2Power and 1 Enoch 48:1-3 1 And in that place I saw the fountain of righteousness Which was inexhaustible: And around it were many fountains of wisdom: And all the thirsty drank of them, And were filled with wisdom, And their dwellings were with the righteous and holy and elect. 2 And at that hour that Son of Man was named In the presence of the Lord of Spirits, And his name before the Head of Days.
3 Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, Before the stars of the heaven were made, His name was named before the Lord of Spirits.
also to clarify (and not for the last time) but among many reasons, including Jesus calling Himself Yahweh, He must be, because it is required in fulfillment of His own law. He views Himself as the husband and Israel as the wife. Paul elucidates in Romans that the only way to regather the "lost" sheep (pagan Israelites, of which most were) under the law is the husband were to die. If God "remarried" divorced Israelites, it was break the law.
I don't believe I have ever said anything other than Jesus is God, full stop. Not "part" of God, but literally just God. There is only one God, Yahweh, and Jesus is the form He chose to take on this earth (final form?)
@Xenophon That one potentially legitimate one book within Enoch I recently learned is the book of watchers... I ran into some internet guy use it and Jude's apparent reference to it to argue against Jesus being Michael. The latter being a position I think I have seen some people on here (on here) make...maybe you???
so my understanding of Enoch is that it there was definitely a legitimate version, my opinion based off the fact a fully intact copy was found in the DSS scrolls but was sold to a private buyer and never copied or revealed to the world.
But the version we have, is actually like 4-5 different books written at different times. Of them the first 1 seems to be the most/only possibly real? But that's also tough because it could just be theyve been corrupted over time and we can't really know.
@Frondeur@Xenophon@blankdeblank@Will2Power >is the arian heresy the reason so many Christian kingdoms and cities fell to the Muslims There might be something to that from geography alone.
@BowsacNoodle@Xenophon@blankdeblank@Frondeur@Will2Power Robert Bellarmine, Saint and Doctor of the Catholic Church, explicitly made the argument that the Eastern Christians suffered at the hands of Islam primarily due to their departure from the Faith, either in his work on General Councils or his defense of the Roman Pontiff, I can't remember which.
@Aspergtame@BowsacNoodle@Xenophon@blankdeblank@Will2Power interesting...I will have to look into that...the parallel then is why did the western Roman empire fall to the goths and vandals...and whatever other germanic arian tribes...
@BowsacNoodle@Frondeur@Xenophon@blankdeblank@Will2Power If memory serves me (mostly Unbiased Byzantium), the Arians aided the Sassanids since they were opposed to the Church in Constantinople, and on your mention of geography, were principally in Syria, Egypt, and surrounding territories.
You'd need a text on the Muslim conquests through Syria and North Africa to be sure, but it wouldn't surprise me since the Islamic conquests came quickly after the Sassanids fell, and Byzantium was still rebuilding and probably had little opportunity for reprisal against the treasonous Arians.
@blankdeblank@Aspergtame@Xenophon@Frondeur@Will2Power The Christians of old were aware of "the noon day devil" and it's probably the reason why Jesuits and others have the mantra Age Quod Agis, literally Do what you're doing. We sort of forget about sloth and its two manifestations because we equate busy with good.
The Roman empire was the Iron mixed with clay, and the stone that broke it was Jesus who set up is final kingdom, that was left to the Germanic tribes who make up all of Europe at present day. (tldr)
Daniel 2 >34 As you were watching, a stone broke off without a hand touching it,[h] struck the statue on its feet of iron and fired clay, and crushed them. 35 Then the iron, the fired clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were shattered and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
>43 You saw the iron mixed with clay—the peoples will mix with one another[j] but will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with fired clay.
>44 “In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, and this kingdom will not be left to another people. It will crush all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself endure forever. 45 You saw a stone break off from the mountain without a hand touching it,[k] and it crushed the iron, bronze, fired clay, silver, and gold. The great God has told the king what will happen in the future.[l] The dream is true, and its interpretation certain.”
@Xenophon@Frondeur@Aspergtame@blankdeblank@BowsacNoodle@Will2Power I've heard an interpretation that the iron mixed with clay is the various nations after Rome's break-up, and the stone striking will be the Second Coming. The Romans were somewhat mixed, but were still one empire, often affiliated with iron, while the nations today are as the iron and clay, mixed together but separate.
The breaking imo is the destruction of Rome, but all of the kingdoms were followed by what destroyed them. Assyria was destroyed by Babylon, Babylon by Makedon, Makedon by Rome, and Rome by the Germanic hordes. The Germanic hordes were also give and spread Christianity and have stood to this day.
I wish more people would understand these things. What the church at large believes now is a relatively new thing. It's sad that we toss everything into the future and shrug out shoulders when asked when these things will be. Then speculate on this person is the antichrist or that person is. I dare say it has ship wrecked many people's faith.
Just look through history, most of revelation at this point is over. We are at the end. Idk how people think it's all future when it literally says "these things must SHORTLY come to pass"
First, I agree with what Xeno has said. I just want to add more because I love this stuff. It brings me real comfort.
Jacob gave this prophecy of the tribe of Dan:
>Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent in the way, An [l]adder in the path, that biteth the horse’s heels, so that his rider falleth backward. I have waited for thy salvation, O Jehovah.
The tribe of Dan had trouble establishing a place, in the conquest of Canaan. Today, you can see a serpent trail of 'dan' named places, from the Danube River to the land of the Danish above.
But that's a weak argument. A little loose. So here's this:
Revelation 6 is of the four horsemen (the rise and fall of the Roman Empire). The next chapter, Revelation 7, lists 12 tribes of Israel, naming them as "those that came out of the great tribulation" (the four horsemen just listed)--but Dan is not listed among the 12 tribes (instead the tribe of Joseph is listed in full by its two parts, making 12). Why isn't Dan listed?
Because Dan has not gone through the tribulation (the rise and fall of the Roman Empire). Dan was the Germanic tribes above. Dan was the stone that judged their fellow Israelites. He biteth the horse's heel. He had been a serpent along the way.
@Jonaschuzzlewit@Aspergtame@Ash_Kvetchum@Omega_Variant@Xenophon@blankdeblank@BowsacNoodle@Gundog@Will2Power somewhere in this heaven thread...I was describing the potentiality of it being easier to keep on the straight path of we (as a whole society) have more of the right books of scripture...I don't think it's a coincidence that we found the dead sea scrolls...and that their existence refutes a lot of nonsense that has attacked what is accepted as scripture...I'm wondering how far I should follow this reasoning...
if it contradicts known scripture, then i would be cautious about believing it. but also you have to ask what the harm is. is there harm in reading it? Is there harm in reading the talmud?
I think Enoch is fascinating but I can't quite go for it. I think if God is a mighty God he will be capable of passing on his Word to us and so I think what is in the current accepted version is enough and more than I need to be saved and instruct and guide me.
I can barely keep on the straight and narrow. I really don't need more. I need to read what I have if that makes sense.
I'm extremely anti KJV but mostly because I'm a contrarian and I'm sick of people acting like there is something magical or inspired about a single translation that was done with jewish texts and made 1600 years after Jesus died.
That's because Muslims were only given 1/3 of the ghay (gee) or region of the Roman earth to conquer, which was the western half. They are the locusts of revelation. The other 2/3rds were given to others.
Bellarmine also collided with Ribera to create the futurist approach to the books of Daniel and revelation which were against how the church understood revelation up to that point. They made it up to deflect from the Protestants pointing the finger (correctly) to the Pope as being the man of perdition. Unfortunately Protestants finally succumbed to this teaching when Scofield came onto the scene along with Darby and popularized it in our circles.
@Ash_Kvetchum@Aspergtame@Omega_Variant@Xenophon@blankdeblank@Gundog@Will2Power Oh from @Frondeur saying how he saw something about people believing Jesus is Michael and trying to look it up. I was probably in that thread... I think it's Coptics or Melkites who think that. "The Angel of The Lord" potentially means Jesus Christ, and there's the tie in there.
So my take on it is your soul is your "angel". When people see the "angel of the Lord" they are seeing Yahweh.
>9 Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “You must go back to your mistress and submit to her mistreatment.”[e] 10 The Angel of the Lord also said to her, “I will greatly multiply your offspring, and they will be too many to count.”
How can anyone but Yahweh greatly multiply Hagars children?
Doing well =) Working on a personal project I'm excited about (but won't write about here because it would hopefully be in the public sphere, and I don't need "He says nigger!" getting in the way of what I hope nudges some of our people toward certain /thoughts/.) Been thinking about how our people need more art in any form it comes. We have some solid comic artists. That's good! We have memes, videos. These are good, too. There are more ways to the heart, though. Trying to do what I can in one of those ways.
(This is not a take on what you wrote, Bowsac. This is a tangent that leaves that lol.)
One day I am going to make a second account and sperg. I want to use iconography to show that the Annunaki visited in the year 0 AD and you can tell because of the space helmets recorded
