Biden won Virginia with 54% of the vote. But Trump won white voters with 53% of the white vote.🙂🙃
Biden's victory, like all Virginia dem victories, depends on having enough turnout from non-white voters, in particular, Black voters.
The only way we could be sure the Biden will win Virginia, is if we can be sure that there will not be a *catastrophic* drop in non-white voter turnout. I mean, massive.
That was a very safe bet, before Biden started talking about Gaza. Own goal.

Those local election wins were based on record turnout in response to concern over reproductive rights. And the turnout increases in Virginia were disproportionately Black.
A suppressive effect on Black voter turnout, runs this effect in reverse.
And unfortunately, it's a stretch to connect "I want to be able to have reproductive rights for myself." with "I won't vote for Trump." Many of the GOP women that voted for Trump (twice!), were pro-choice. 🙂🙃

Albemarle voted for Obama by a strong majority in 2008(58%) and 2012(55%) and Hillary in 2016(59%), and Biden in 2020 (54%). It's 9% Black, and Black Virginia voters vote for Dem pres at a rate of ~94%.
The school board election result had huge turnout, and the result was 62% for Spillman.

I'm agreeing with your points *up until the Biden admin response to Oct 7th*.
Since then, there has been a *massive* change in voter enthusiasm in Michigan and Virginia that liberals are not acknowledging is real. It is entirely possible that two voting blocks that delivered these uplifts in turnout: Black voters and Arab/Muslim/Palestinian voters, will not perform the same heroics for Biden in November.

The Biden admin's hope is that the Black and Arab/Muslim/Palestinian voters will "come around" between now and November. Their hope is that the Gaza hostilities would be "wrapped up*" by them, and that Gazans would run Gaza.
But that's not Netanyahu's plan. It has never been his plan. Netanyahu has now said as much, publicly. So Biden is in a bind.

@emilygorcenski @Sharksonaplane then the loss of some constituencies due to policy disagreements wouldn't be so impactful. The Democratic coalition is a big tent with a large collection of minority people who have different and opposing wants/needs/ideologies, no policy is going to make them all happy at the same time, so having support of the majority of the majority is important to be able to absorb the constant loss and gain of small factions of voters.

@emilygorcenski @Sharksonaplane That kinda goes back to the main point, there is no universe where Trump should be winning the majority of the white vote, and white people talking to other white people can pick up far far more votes than squeezing out the last drops of participation from minority communities. We need fight the culture of white supremacy as too many whites are insane with irrational fear to have sanity return to politics. We can't keep making Africans do the work for us...

@emilygorcenski @Sharksonaplane I always hate this framing, while the GOP has a lot of dark money candidates decided in smoke-filled rooms, and sometimes they even win something, the Dems tend to have _volunteers_ and the voters who show up in the primary pick who runs in the general. I won't say never, but there are very few smoky rooms, and there is no "they" secretly running things in the vast majority of cases. Talk to your fellows if you don't understand their choices.

@emilygorcenski In context of the thread you responded to, you are LITERALLY saying that you don't care if nonwhite VA voters stay home on election day due to Biden's abetting of genocide because you don't think we're needed OR because you don't think what we care about matters.
