Did you release a game for a retro platform in 2023?

DOS? GBA? Mega Drive? C64? NES? PS1? Wii? Speccy?

Or do you know of one that you really like as a player?

Can you tell me about it within the next 14 hours?

I'm writing a very fast turn-around article for a retro book that I'm handing over first thing tomorrow morning and I want to finish it up by name checking some modern retro games, including those that aren't necessarily on my radar.

I obviously know about notable stuff like The Aching, Briley Witch 2, GoodBoy Galaxy, and Barren Planet, but there's just so much cool software coming out on "dead" platforms and I'd like to know about anything amazing that I might have missed.

It's currently about 15:30 UTC on the 10th of January 2024. That means your cut-off is around 5:30 UTC on the 11th of January. The sooner the better, though.

@HauntedOwlbear I dunno if it counts or if it's one you're already aware of, and also not sure it was this year, but does Wonderland Dizzy for the NES count? It was thought lost entirely as it was intended to come out for the Aladdin Deck Enhancer for the NES but with the deck failing at market, and it having to be an unlicensed title, it got cancelled, and the source code was only just discovered by the Oliver Twins very recently, and you can download the ROM from their own site

@HauntedOwlbear@eldritch.cafe We're releasing new DOS games made for the ZZT game engine from 1991, if that counts?

      https://museumofzzt.com/file/search/?title=&author=&filename=&contents=&company=&genre=&board_min=&board_max=&year=2023&rating_min=&rating_max=&lang=any&details=15&details=13&details=18&details=37&sort=title

I think the two highlights are WiL's releases for the platform, though, which use a version of the engine modified so much they might as well count as new DOS games:

@nivrig The forthcoming third edition of Retro Gaming with Raspberry Pi.

I'm afraid that, reasons of not wanting my editor to kill me over my word count, I ended up focusing on MS-DOS development for this feature.

However, I've got a series of development pitches lined up for the same publisher, so I'll be mining this thread for those.

I try to remember to let people know when their mentions are due to be published.
