@Hoss@EvilSandmich@Turdicus they all paid the money back, but I wanted to see them all collapse and their executives get torn to pieces by street mobs. It's going to happen anyway so please let it happen while I can enjoy it, not when I'm homeless.
@Hoss@Turdicus yeah the Fed started their cash-for-trash program back when those banks failed to try and stem the tide (so might be “paper“ losses?). its amusing to remember back to when the 08 bailout apologists were talking about what a smart move it was because “the government made money” which was stupid on its face, and even more so to everyone who saw it for the punt that it was.
The Fed had no choice but to take on those banks' heavy ass bags if they wanted to keep the scam going a little longer, otherwise there would've been bank runs all over the country and the jig would finally be up.
@Hoss yeah but that looks so much more sudden than id expect from that and also the effects starting this year seems weird when lockdowns began in 2020 and ended mostly in 2021?
> If the Fed booked a loss in a given year, it would have no profits to remit to the Treasury. Under the Fed’s accounting rules, it would then accumulate a “deferred asset” equal to its cumulative losses. Once the Fed returned to profitability, it would retain profits to pay down the deferred asset. Only once the deferred asset had been reduced to zero – that is, once the Fed had retained earnings offsetting its earlier losses – would the Fed resume remitting profits to the Treasury. (For details, see Carpenter et al (2015)).
@thendrix@EvilSandmich@Turdicus@Hoss@Moon The ammo suggestion does not work because of its poor density. Do you have any idea how large a room with 1,000,000 rounds of 5.56 needs to be?
Government agencies and other organizations stockpile ammo because it's feasible for them to own, maintain, and guard warehouses. But your apartment is not a warehouse.
I attribute a lot of weird mental shit I have going on now to my stint on the antichrist pills. Occasionally I'll just totally forget the name of something or someone that I absolutely should know and simply won't be able to jog my memory until I find the right vaguely worded search query to bring up what it is and jog my memory.
well I know that technically nobody's supposed to be on drugs but it smacks of a similar scent as weed lovers when they just take everything with placid acceptance. Maybe it's the fact that everyone puts their kids on SSRIs, maybe the fact they've never ACTUALLY had to see death, probably a combo of that and more.
But they're extremely blase about dying, at least in theory. Having an IRL close call does seem to push them back to sanity, I guess? Had one once and I had to physically drag the dude out to the plane after we landed because he would have just sat in the lounge staring at the wall for 2 more hours. He just sat there staring at it forever, shaking.
It's probably the antidepressants. I wanted to die when they put me on the antichrist pills, and while I was on them I just didn't care about anything. I don't want to die anymore even after being off them for a while, but I also don't really care if I do. When you get off those things the brain fog goes away and the emotions come back, but I think some stuff in the neural wiring remains changed forever.
@Hoss@Nimbius666@union@EvilSandmich@Turdicus@Moon@adiz@thendrix I've found it distressing how amenable trainee kids are to dying. Doesn't seem healthy when dudes in their prime, tackling an exciting career, are like "yeah man it's okay I don't need to stress too much if I crash and die then that's cool I'm not too attached to livin anyway"
Like that cirrus pilot who killed himself last year....but hey, there's no gov-made graph to indicate that so it's not a real indicator of societal dysfunction
I'm so used to not caring if I die once the wheels leave the ground that I actually had to remind myself that that's not how normal people feel about flying when another family member was apprehensive about booking a Spirit flight.
You're only in your late twenties? Yeah, ngmi. I didn't start slowing down mentally until around 40ish. I also work alone and don't have much extended contact with people other than the wife and kids, so that doesn't help keep my memory sharp as to random trivia, like what's their face's name.
