     This guy did a breakdown and discovered it takes almost the same amount of water and feed for 1 kg of chicken as it does for 1kg of bugs:

     There is literally no environmental benefit to edible bugs, because for them to be edible, they need to be given animal grade feed.
     
     Farming bugs is useful to breakdown non-human grade waste, but it fails as a human food product.

I think it's probably the only bug based food that will actually be common, purely because it's extremely easy to hide and generally economically viable as a filler product.
