    If they're even capable of regurgitating them. Some people feel like they're on defective hardware - no matter how simple a sentence is, they struggle to parse it and seem to respond with random noise. Even bots can be more engaging than these people; at least a bot is sometimes coincidentally amusing.

    I like the term "cognitohazard", because it puts some extra emphasis on these being hazardous. Some ideas are harmful, not because they're dissent and not because embracing them is a threat to the status quo, but because the idea itself causes harm by thinking about - or is engineered to spread virally and hijack your subconscious to alter your way of thinking without you even being aware of it. Ads, for example, are the most common one the average person will experience in their day to day life.

    If you're willing to get a bit spiritual, I believe these kinds of people don't have souls. The "meme malware" they're infected with not only kills the mind and soul, but rewires them to try spreading it to people who still have intact souls. Engaging with them is harmful, both mentally and spiritually, because they've been hijacked and rewired to cause harm.

    @matrix Yuzu apparently wasn't clean room, and patreon was also a large part of the issue. From what I've heard, the devs were openly talking about playing leaked games early, which breaks the whole "no I was totally playing backups of games I legally purchased and dumped myself" thing all of the emulator devs need to pretend to do.

    Plus, it's the US. Even if they were 100% innocent and Nintendo had absolutely 0 case whatsoever, Nintendo is a multibillion dollar company, and Yuzu is a small business. Nintendo can afford to drag out a frivolous lawsuit that has 0 chance of going anywhere for decades to bleed them dry, and Yuzu absolutely can not afford to fight that battle in court. It's why so many lawsuits involving these huge corporations are settled out of court - saying "Okay I admit I was wrong" and going bankrupt because you can't afford to pay a few million dollars is a hell of a lot better than battling it for years, going bankrupt, and then declared guilty because you ran out of money, which leads to you getting a fine 100x as large (which you still can't pay), and setting a precedent that emulators are illegal leading to every other emulator that's ever existed getting taken down.

    @georgia @Arcana @allison @lewdthewides It makes sense, in a way. If it was labeled "porn", kids would ask what that means. Labeling it "adult" makes them think "oh, these are books for adults", without introducing them to the concept of porn.

    @eris for real though this kind of stuff is why I don't refer to myself as trans, because I don't experience transphobia much, most people just perceive me as an effeminate gay guy rather than nonbinary or trans. There's some overlap between that kind of homophobia and transphobia, but what I experience is most definitely not the experience of most trans people. Some nonbinaries get the full trans experience, but I'm most definitely not one of them, and it'd be wrong for me to pretend I'm getting the same experience just because I fall under the same umbrella.

    had a dream last night where for some reason my instance went down and I was unable to set up a new one, eris and arcana invited me to join disqordia but I declined because I thought my presence would just cause problems there and I felt like most of its userbase would dislike me, then I had to leave fedi forever because for whatever reason I couldn't use any other instance.
