@sheepnik I read a study a few years ago, which showed that basically everyone in the UK had a vitamin D deficiency, and about 75% had a severe deficiency.
Ever since then, I've taken a supplement every day when I haven't had at least fifteen minutes in direct sun, in shorts and sleeves. Which has been almost every day this 'summer'.
This week's #ThursdayFiveList is #TheLive. I often post live versions of tracks to the various hashtags, so I need to find something other than my usual go-to live performances today!
Anna Meredith - Paramour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny_8rly0TMw (I saw Anna last year - she is just so much fun, I'd encourage everyone to go and watch her if you get the chance)
James Brown - Super Bad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPY7P-bEGZg (If I could go back in time and see any artist play live, it would James in this period, with the very best JBs lineup, Bootsy, Catfish, Maceo, St Clair Pinckney, Fred Wesley etc)
ADG7 (Ak Dan Gwang Chil) - Whatever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr02zU9R1Cs (Had never heard of them before I saw them on the recent Glastonbury coverage. Are my new favourite band. They are amazing.)
@vampiress What with all the different books and the map, and the way the manual came with a letter from a lawyer announcing that it and the first ship was your inheritance, that was my favourite game box by a distance.
#today it is snowing, and I'm very grateful that it's snowing, because builders a few doors down were being awfully loud this morning but now they've packed up and gone home. All is peaceful.
Unrelated, today I also bought a tv. Well, I bought it a few days ago and it came today. I'm 43 and this is the first tv I've ever bought.
It's not that I don't watch tv, it's just that for the past umpteen years, I've watched on laptop or tablet. And before that there were various communal tvs in shared homes. But this is My First Television.
#today I volunteered with the Woodland Trust, cutting back obstructive branches and holly (so much holly) from the paths in one of my local woods. I haven't done this much physical work in about twenty years and am very knackered. Can someone please come around and bring me ice cream.
#today I'm anxious and strained and exhausted. Tomorrow I have to spend a bunch of time with strangers, doing stuff, and I'm very nervous. Plus, I went shopping today on my lunch break, and it was more overwhelming than usual, I barely kept it together. I just want to go to bed.
#today Went for a walk out to the woods. I'm going to be volunteering there next week, and even though I walk there often, I needed to know exactly how long it takes to walk from my home to where I'll be working. I have to plan everything out if I'm going to cope with it okay.
Also, gave the birds some Super Suet Balls. No idea what makes them super. But they were an immediate hit, the feeder was flocked.
Now, lounging around on the sofa, watching the rugby, and dreading the Wales-England game later.
@Mrfunkedude This is true of all social media, not just Mastodon: it is nobody's business but your own who you follow, and what you see in your feed.
Don't listen to anyone who says you must do this or that, you must see all the posts about whatever, etc. Your feed belongs to you alone and is your space. Make it somewhere that you're comfortable to spend time in.
I can't help it, using caps lock just doesn't come naturally. Maybe because I grew up with this computer, the Spectrum+, which... okay, it does have a caps lock, but it's in a much less convenient location, and it's so much easier just to press one of the big shift keys.
(Also, because the Speccy was a wonderful thing, all the BASIC commands above the keys automatically enter in upper case.)
#today I sowed some more seeds. Korean mint and my first chillies of the year, apparently called Zimbabwe Black Chillies. They'll be growing on a south-facing windowsill for a while.
@Mrfunkedude I had to escape from the person who had abused me for many years. I also had no money and nowhere to live, and I didn't have a damn clue what to do. I just managed to find a way to get out.
It'll be the 13th anniversary of that in a week or so. Things aren't great but I'm here.
#today I went to see Banshees of Inisherin (back in the cinema to take advantage of the award nominations).
Great film but I would've enjoyed it a lot more if so many people hadn't turned up late, been noisy, and if the late-arriving guy next to me hadn't taken off his shoes *and socks*, then put his bare feet up on the seats in front.
This is a clear breach of the cinema etiquette code and he should not be allowed out of the house again.
Autistic Welsh NHS emergency care quality improvement person.(they/them or he/him - don't really have a gender to speak of but those are familiar.)Most important: Trans rights are human rights; Black lives matter; Tories always despise you even if they pretend not to.Enthusiastic about woodland, cricket, silent film, constitutional stuff, birds, gardening, tea, sandwiches.(Profile pic: Buster Keaton sits unhappily in a steamship funnel; header is a glass teapot full of leaves.)
