On a related note, my old school web sensibilities might be sort of back in vogue now in many ways (!), but keeping a #blog on my own site without subscriptions over two decades was also foolish. I'm wondering if there's an ethical #FOSS alternative to stuff like Substack where I could import all my old blog posts and start a free subscription base? I don't mean WordPress either - in my experience people don't seem to intuitively subscribe to my site through WordPress (sadly...and I love WordPress btw!) #FediTips #Fediverse

Something I'll say about my decades of journalism, videography, and general media activism: I was so focused on being an anti-capitalist I forgot to remember the fact that "non-profit" never meant "non-fundraising"; I let indie cinemas keep all the box office takings, took no revenue, and paid everyone but myself, and neglected to secure any sustainable plan. Most of that was back before the rise of social media and online promotion. I was very "indy media" (as well as often IndyMedia!) Credit where it's due to folks being way smarter now than I ever was! #GuerrillaJournalism #GuerrillaFilmmaking #documentary

@markcheeseman You're not alone - some folks on here have been saying the same, and I totally relate; it took me a while to get everything switched over! The good thing is, alternatives have now emerged to the point where the services are as good as Gmail's strongest features, if not better.

@joriki @markcheeseman That's awesome. They haven't included Skiff yet, though they're very recent so I guess will be added soon, unless they take exception to the fact they're U.S.-based!

@markcheeseman Good question! If it's just email as an alternative, then there's Riseup email, but there are also a bunch that offer loads more Google-like stuff with the email, like ProtonMail, Tutanota, Skiff, etc. It depends what you're wanting really!

Any insight from @admin perhaps?

@CartyBoston Yeah it can be painstaking to say the least! It's about picking away at it bit by bit I think!

It seems I can email everyone just fine except folks with Gmail accounts. Please stop using Google...like, entirely. Nothing good can come of it! #DeGoogle
