Per the BBC article, I am entirely wrong about my previous thinking - if Ukraine is telling the truth. Ukraine is claiming fully automated deployment of the attack, or very close to it, with a separate remote operator for each drone and automatic opening of the tops of the transport boxes, which were built as false ceilings in the tops of freight containers. And remote incendiaries in the containers, for when the attack had finished.

That seems likely. I am guessing a fairly small team, but more than one drone operator. It does sound as if they got their timing very nicely, given the aircraft types they hit.

They're even claiming to have had solar panels in the carriers, to keep the drone and control batteries topped up during the journeys to the target areas.

If that's correct, then IMO and with no inside knowledge:

Compromised access via the networks serving specific locations. Not necessarily the locations themselves.

Traffic management springs to mind.
