Historic hotel in Germany collapses, trapping holiday makers. This is interesting mostly because it's a pretty rare occurrence.

The hotel was built in the 17thC and the second story was added in the 1980s. It would appear that the older structure collapsed from the weight of the new part.

I wonder if they did building wor recently or if it was just entropy. 🤔

@evan What would that even look like? How can you possibly nationalize a software technology? It's all abstract.

@ai6yr They probably expect you to kill 1/3 or more of the plants. That may well be realistic for people who don't install automatic irrigation.

I know people who spend an hour every evening hose watering their garden. Then they go on holiday and come back to dead plants. Big surprise! 🤦🏼♀️

When I tell them that they should install irrigation, they act like I'm inviting them to my Satanist church. 😂 Year, after year...

@ai6yr With an established native garden you don't need it. But realistically it's going to take most people at least 3-5 years to get to that stage. If they lose lots of plants every time they take a vacation, it takes even longer. Automatic systems save time, money and heartache.

I wrote this as a response to a question about overcoming harsh, unjust self-criticism. It sums up a lot of my healing journey.

The only thing I'd add, is that having the goal to "be over" something is wildly counter-productive. In fact, I now think it's doing the abusers' work for them.

@some_natalie @briankrebs We need to follow the EU's example on corporate fines. They base them on the company's revenue. A first-time offender can net a fine of 7% of their annual revenue. Subsequent offenses get more costly.

When the fine is seriously eating into corporate profits, compliance comes quickly.

@thomasfuchs Some people find the act of writing hard and/or time consuming.

If you're one of the people for whom text just flows out of their fingers as they think, it's hard to imagine just how much intellectual work some people have to put into writing. At least that's the way it is for me. I only realized how much effort it took by sitting next to somebody who was sweating bullets over every single word. It's painful to watch!

@thomasfuchs But a security fix that causes websites to run arbitrary code sounds bad. Is there a negation missing?
