    @dalias @tante Non-copyleft licenses like the "MIT licence" are now being used as an active threat to free software.

    @daridrea It's not as simple as "toxic people." Most of us live in societies that condition men to behave in this way. It needs to be specifically "called out" and attitudes changed.

    @sysedit It's really down to what you are reading documentation on.

    Bigger projects related to GNU Emacs will usually use Info, and that's my preferred way.

    However, some things don't give you much of a choice and you're down to some README file in Markdown, or web pages.

    But my documentation preference list in Emacs would start with Info, go through man and end up with markdown (whatever that is these days).

    Just reading through a guide to set up GNU #Emacs for #Clojure, and it starts off telling you to delete your .emacs file and .emacs.d directory ...

    Um, a hard no on that one 🙄

    @amszmidt Correct - Gnus Not Unix.

    Also, no computer programme is "intuitive"; they all have to be learnt.

    @amszmidt I use the Linux-Libre kernel and remove the non-free-firmware repository (and the non-free/contrib repos generally of course).

    I completely agree with you about software freedom and it's a shame that the Debian project voted to change that for firmware.

    #Debian #GNU/#Linux is a marvel.

    I just upgraded the second of my remote servers from 12 (Bookworm) to 13 (Trixie).

    The upgrade was flawless, the same as with my desktop, laptop and home server.

    Sincere thanks to the Debian project, another small donation is on its way 🙂

    @teledyn Well, would that mean that after the evolution of Homo Sapiens, GNU #Emacs was inevitable?

    @_elena Here's another one.

    Supposing you've just downloaded a file, got an output from a programme or summat.

    ls -ltr

    There "l" does what you already know.
    The "t" orders the list in time (created or last modified), and the "r" puts the list in reverse order so the last saved file is there at the foot of he list, conveniently just above your prompt.

    I use this a lot, it's so "baked in" to my fingers over so many years that I type it without thinking about it.

    @tuban_muzuru

    I've always remembered the "townhall" interview Nelson Mandela did on his visit to the USA in 1990.

    When a US journalist attempted (to his own embarrassment)to upbraid Mandela on his personal contacts (and those of the ANC) with Cuba (Fidel Castro) and the PLO (Yasser Arafat), he reminded him that:

    "one of the mistakes, which some political analysts make, is to think that their enemies should be our enemies"
