**Tech Enthusiasts: **
Everything in my house is wired to the Internet of Things! I control it all from my smartphone! My smart-house is bluetooth enabled and I can give it voice commands via alexa! I love the future!
**Programmers / Engineers: **
The most recent piece of technology I own is a printer from 2004 and I keep a loaded gun ready to shoot it if it ever makes an unexpected noise.
**Security technicians:**
*takes a deep swig of whiskey*
I wish I had been born in the neolithic.

@lanodan @neil Sure, and both they and I mentioned that. The thing is that the bulk of the tools on those SGI boxes was proprietary.
Interesting decade-old 3-part blog post about Igalia, a remarkable Spanish workers' coop doing cool stuff in FOSS.

@killyourfm Turned off hibernation?
Admin CMD prompt:
POWERCFG /H OFF
Reboot. Run Disk Cleanup, tick all the boxes, let er rip. Then run it again, click "system files" and do the same again. It'll take much longer.
Run CHKDSK /F. Reboot again.
If that doesn't do it, then resize using Gparted from a Linux live medium, e.g. SystemRescue. Use Ventoy to format a multi boot key the easy way.
@sun Er. Yeah. About that...

We Need To Rewild The Internet
The internet has become an extractive and fragile monoculture. But we can revitalize it using lessons learned by ecologists.
Get a sense of scale for computer storage...
Byte of data: a grain of rice
Kilobyte: a cup of rice
Megabyte: 8 bags of rice
Gigabyte: 3 container lorries
Terabyte: 2 container ships
Petabyte: covers Manhattan
Exabyte: covers the UK (3 times)
Zettabyte: fills the Pacific Ocean

@aral This is terrible. Who started this awful war?
When I go for a walk, if I see conkers (horse chestnuts) or acorns, I fill my pockets.
Later, I throw them into any patches of wasteland or neglected scrub I pass.
Maybe 0.1% will grow into trees, but I'm spreading future woodland. It feels like I'm helping a tiny bit.
Try it!

Stop using Brave Browser.
Seriously.

If someone recommends Brave to you, you should ignore them, because they are wrong. Brave Browser is a mess of a software project, and the company building it is even worse.
Linux has nearly half of the desktop Linux market

It would be twice as much if people could stop arguing about who counts and who doesn't

Don't expect to see any more big AIX news. This means the last Unix left is… Linux
