@Razemix @urwumpe @EUCommission Yes, a Discord age verification partner recently had a leak so that people’s emails, photos etc. were exposed.

@QasimRashid Apparently most of them were on business visas since it is hard for Koreans to get work visas, and it is fuzzy what you are allowed to do on a business visa even if it is your home company that pays you and not an American company… so that becomes the ICE excuse.

@molly0xfff His description of the finance industry is also great:
« But, in truth, it had not exactly been gold, or even the promise of gold, but more like the fantasy of gold, the fairy dream that the gold is there, at the end of the rainbow, and will continue to be there forever - provided, naturally, that you don't go and look. This is known as finance.»

@QasimRashid I think the Goebbels lookalike is more part of the power behind the throne together with Musk; remember when a journalist asked Trump about the 9-0 SC decision against Trump and Miller immediately rushed to gaslight that the decision was in Trump’s favor? They keep lying to their «what am I signing now?» puppet while he keeps letting Elon use the administration to help hos companies and let Miller introduce fascism.

@_thegeoff @rupert @rlmcneary2 @pluralistic also - even though the question of ISPs as «common carrier» has been on/off over the years of changing federal administrations and FCC heads, parsing web pages to identify ads and replacing them, or embellishing them with your own HTML most certainly falls outside that «get out of responsibility» protection.

@thomasfuchs Yes, that works when a bubble is isolated, but in this case the AI disease has spread to non-techbro companies too, so a lot of companies in other industries are going to be sucked in and suffer for believing the hype. Like Air Canada which had to compensate a customer because their AI customer service bot made up an answer, or McDonald’s whose drive-in AI mixed up the orders from multiple customers.

@thomasfuchs This is worse than the crypto or metaverse fads, though, because many companies are convinced they have to implement AI or lose out to their competitors. (Oh, and it seems AI is just as big a boon for criminals as the crypto craze still is, with deepfakes and auto-creation of more plausible-sounding phishing texts.)

@tzimmer_history When the party of «states’ rights» approve of a candidate that wants the federal government to wage war against states you know it was never about states’ rights but just about the party.

@ChallengeApathy @QasimRashid Then you will want to change the Constitution to remove the Electoral College and take the responsibility of running elections away from the states. As it is now, elections are PER STATE.

@ChallengeApathy @QasimRashid As they have done. Election qualifications are part of the laws. Being «unelected» is not a disqualification for doing their job. Is your doctor «elected»? No. Being «elected» to a position is a rarity, most people are hired. That does not make them worthless. Unless you want a separate political class that runs unsupervised by others.
