@lanodan @andrewrk the original was written on a minimal set of Fortran because the author didn't know it very well, and it ran on quite a few different os's each of which would have had their own proprietary compiler back then, because it used such a minimal subset of the language it was quite easy to do that.

@andrewrk Heh. I'm not a programmer, but the only program I know to make that claim is written in Fortran, and the first version came out in the early 70s (major rewrites in 1997 and 2010), so I believe him, since who's code was he going to copy in the early 70s? It was distributed by mailing boxes of punch cards to you!

WHAT THE FUCK. Google Authenticator just upgraded and now CAN'T GENERATE MOST OF MY CODES and thinks telling me to remove them and readd them is an acceptable solution.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WORK THAT IS? That means I have to HOPE I can find the emergency login codes for all of those and that I *can* turn off and readd it easily.

I guess that helps me migrate to another app with local backups like I'd been planning on. Any suggestions? I was thinking Duo.

    Boosts Welcome, advice request

@craigmaloney I seem to recall you know a lot about obscure music. I'm looking to buy a rather obscure physical album from the early 2000s, would you be able to give any advice on that, or am I remembering the wrong person?

@Polychrome Makes sense. Also I probably shouldn't trust my memory. We went from an 800x600 CRT from the mid-90s to a 720p LCD, and a CRT TV from the late 90s to a full HD LCD, so I'm used to LCDs being a *huge* step forward in graphics.

(As long as plasma stays dead though, hated those viewing angles)

@Polychrome I just feel bad for anyone that has to move CRTs; I did that a LOT during the early 2000s and the thick glass you need to stop the electrons and not blast the user with beta radiation are *heavy*

@Polychrome Fair. What is wrong with older LCDs? My ProArt monitor is 10 years old this year with no problems.

@craigmaloney I always wonder how much of that is "whatever the programmer in charge of doing integrations was using at the time"

@Polychrome did pigeon stop supporting xmpp or something? Or did it stop looking like a clone of MSN messenger?

it's what I switched from MSN Messenger to in like 2007 but I stopped using when I stopped using MSN Messenger and Google talk as my main instant messengers

@roadriverrail @BestGirlGrace who got friends what happens in international waters? I remember reading this article about this guy who tried to broadcast from every ham radio zone, including the island at the farthest point from any other land, so he was like the 6th person to ever stand on it or something like that and only stayed for long enough as it took him to broadcast his message

You know what we should bring back? Instant messenger buddy notifiers.

Signed: Someone who just sent a bunch of silly messages to someone over signal only to get a "can't talk, in therapy" response.

Witnessed: Someone who thinks Google Talk and Windows (MSN) Messenger had the messaging interface pretty much perfected in the early 2000s

@silverwizard Black Blade is one of my favorite Blue Öyster Cult songs, it's pretty obviously written about alrick so I kind of assumed that was one of the ones he wrote

if he sang on it then I've already heard him then
