Seen a lot of takes that #Mastodon has surpassed #Twitter in the spread of breaking news with the pseudo coup in #Russia.
My hot take is that it might not have anything to do with Mastodon, but that Elon is aligned with Putin's policies and uses his site to suppress negative news.

Most of the issues I see people bring up about #screenreaders are honest to goodness #accessibility issues with the tech and Unicode.
Sure, you can (try to) change peoples behavior, but in some cases it's just straight up pitting marginalized groups against each other.

Only one of these are primarily a people problem (and in the same category as excessive use of ascii art or characters for ~*pizzass*~.

A screenreader should be able to signal that a whole block, not just one symbol at a time, is "foreign" (e.g. "Hi! I'm [VAI BLOCK ANDURE END BLOCK]!", but preferably something less crap ass), and emojis should have more accessible descriptions, adjusted for mixed use and not just standalone imagery.

Examples I've seen described:
* using emojis in text ("Hello! 👋") reads ridiculous ("Hello! [EMOJI WAVING HAND]"), in some cases losing all message cohesion.
* using non-latin characters in text ("Hi, I'm ꕉꖫꔓ!") either skips over the non-lat chars ("Hi, I'm !") or reads out completely ridiculous ("Hi, I'm [VAI SYLLABLE A] [VAI SYLLABLE NDU] [VAI SYLLABLE REE]!").
* using emojis / non-latin characters for decoration.

Imagine getting an in context reading like "Hello! [WAVES HAND]", or similar to the specific case that brought this thread on: "[CLAPS FOR EMPHASIS] Once more for the people in the back!"]).

So, _please_ could we get some screen reader developers on the multilanguage accessible train, and could we _please_ get Unicode to step up descriptions?

@wyri @walruslifestyle @mac This is exactly the thing tho': the push for WFO isn't a "do what's best for you" thing, but "WFO is mandatory" and increasingly "no hybrid" and that's why your first post is taken as both siding a very clear issue.
I do understand that mandatory WFH was hard for a lot of people and I'm sorry it caused you harm.

@wyri @walruslifestyle @mac Both siding might have been the wrong critique, it's more like the "not all men" thing: we _know_ not all WFO appreciators demand everyone WFO all the time whether it's the best option or not, but the ones we're discussing are.
So jumping in with nuancing is more of a nuisance even though it's in good faith.

@wyri @mac Honestly, the employees demanding that everyone else come in so they can hang should get a hobby, a hubby, or a social life.
I don't mind anyone (nor myself) going back into the office if it serves a purpose, what I detest is being required to because someone else has a need to see me be there while they not interact with me.

@bobmagicii @wyri @mac Sunk cost of long contracts for office space combined with managers needing to prove to their bosses that their work is necessary, along with en unhealthy dose of distrust, believing employees will slack off/go to the gym if not watched (a behavior mostly seen in the managerial class).

Det är en BBC-dokuserie som handlar om Kush, men det får man inte veta för det står ingenting i beskrivningen. Finns några till såna styvmoderligt behandlade program, men oftast(?) inom dokumentärerna.
Hur ska folk bli intresserade om de inte ens får en smakbit?
