Looking forward to when that machete ban kicks in and the nogs start acting like responsible citizens.

@rher Funny how they pretend it never happened though even though we're still living the consequences.

@BanjoPartisan @Cyrillic @Aether @rher I should clarify that when I say no one, I mean on a level which might tip a seat. We hear all about branch-stacking scandals when it comes to party votes but we're expected to believe the elections are squeaky clean.

I mean, it doesn't actually matter because there's no real choice anyway, but my original point was merely that we have no way of knowing what goes on and I don't see any reason why elections should be taken as a barometer of public opinion.

@BanjoPartisan @Cyrillic @Aether @rher There's no way to prosecute and no way to filter out the fraudulent vote.

@Cyrillic @Aether @rher As far as I can tell, yes. Electronic rolls would help stop this but usually there's no tech at all in the voting station - it's all pencil and paper. If they spotted the irregularity there'd be no way of cancelling out the invalid vote or tracking you down.

@Aether @rher It's not about whether an individual votes multiple times but whether others could vote via identity theft and whether it would be meaningfully pursued if they did. Add to that the fact that there's no longer a single voting day but a two week period and the system is ripe for subversion. The fact that we are expected to believe no one has apparently tried seems suspicious to me in itself.

I didn't know that about the electronic rolls - they were still crossing names off with a pencil and ruler at the station I visited.

@rher No, and no voter ID. When you turn up they simply ask if you've voted already, like we live in a high-trust society or something.

Also, no irregularities ever. Apparently our system is so good no one's ever attempted to mess with it.

@rher Number them from 1 to 8 in order of your preference. Failure to do so will result in your vote being put in the bin. Even if you put the major parties 7 and 8 and all the minor parties above them, at some point in the counting the minors will be knocked out and your vote will go to whichever of the majors you hate less.

If you refuse to submit to this humiliation ritual you'll be fined.

@rher Well, I think democracy in general is bullshit but Australia has compulsory preferential voting, which means everyone is forced by law to pick between the two major parties at some point. On top of that, we have to vote in pencil.

Lots of recriminations and analysis, like voting matters at all and election results are an accurate representation of the mood of the nation.

@sapphire Yeah, most of them live out in the middle of nowhere and your average Melbournite has probably never actually met one. They cause a lot of trouble for the locals though. Apparently they're the most criminal race in the world per capita.

Remember: it's antisemitic to suggest AIPAC has any influence over American foreign policy, but it's fine to suggest Loomer, of all the fucking jews, is secretly controlling the President of the United States.

@Marakus I kind of wish I'd actually read the article to find out just how she's supposedly controlling him, but I'm not going back now. Probably some combination of kabbalah and khazar milkers.

Lol, I just noticed the headline in the embedded video. They tried to use Warne's boner pill OD to promote heart health, as if there but for the grace of God go us all. It's like using Michael Hutchence's death to raise awareness of suicide.

I'd initially chalked it up to the covid vax, but a cocktail of black-market boner pills and two Indonesian hookers is closer to how I always imagined Shane Warne would die.
