I don't trust short URLs to take me to a safe website.

If you are the same, on a Mac, and would prefer not to trust URL expander websites as well, the following technique works:

1. Open the Terminal app.
2. At the prompt, type "curl" (without the quotes) then a space then the short URL.
3. Find the destination URL in the brief response, select it, and copy. (If the response is not brief, it might not be trustable.)
4. Paste the destination URL into the browser.
