@fesshole I have long suspected the police themselves report non-existent mobile speed cameras to radio stations and apps.
It takes ten minutes to do and many thousands of people will be obeying the speed limit for a while.

@dansup I have experience with launching on platforms outside of Apple and Google but is there not a risk that Google can decide to stall release on their store “because reasons” if they see you launching on the alternatives first?
@weekinfediverse Just wondering, do you not include mobile apps under Clients?
For instance, Ivory was updated this week.

@Edent It’s not for me but I can see this work out really well in a Pixelfed account to share where a photo was taken.
I envisage maps with dots and then you can click a dot to see how dozens of people have photographed the same thing in dozens of different ways.
@dansup I pictured something like this, great. https://mastodon.social/@LeonardoDiOttio/116963853515800432
Does it work with other ActivityPub services that might also use location. Perhaps #Mobilizon or #FediHood?
I picture things such as grouping all photos of an event together, or discussions around the location of a photo.
@fesshole This is a pettiness I can get behind.
@apps Also, Terence Eden has done some thinking about location-based services on the Fediverse.
Perhaps you could have an anonymous setting and a public setting. The first for random chats with local strangers, the second for attending events etc.
Podcast: “Decentralised social media offers an alternative to big tech platforms like X and Meta. How does it work?”

@Gargron @chrismessina Presumably because you can join the group so you are ‘kept in the loop’.
@Gargron Will link previews support WebP and AVIF?
That’s becoming a bigger issue by the day as more sites choose to use those image formats for og:image and the Mastodon server doesn’t understand those.
@Gargron How about this for QuoteToots?
By default only posts with hashtags can be quoted (after all, they are intended to be fairly public).
Accounts can change to AlwaysAllow if they are, for instance, a news or campaign organisation or just want their Mastodon experience to be more public.
Accounts can change to AlwaysBlock if they are concerned about abuse or wish their Mastodon experience to be more intimate.
