@Gina@fosstodon.org This is why people prefer using actual free software, such as Garage, licensed under the AGPL-3.0, and hosted using free software too.

Open Source is a scam, as has been proven countless times now.

@AndresFreundTec@mastodon.social Hoped for effect of AI use of new postgres contributors: Faster rampup, higher quality patches. How could you have been hoping for that? If you know how "AI" (more accurately, generative LLMs) work, you'd know they'd never be able to make "higher quality patches".

Even if you don't know how these systems work, and have no desire to understand, you could look at any place where generative LLMs are used, and see that they do not produce anything worthwhile, so it would seem silly to me to believe they'll produce anything worthwhile in a particular project out of sheer hopr.

@douginamug@mastodon.xyz @tootbrute@fedi.arkadi.one Would still make me feel more comfortable were it not the case. Can I ask you why? Russia is considered the worst evil ever known to exist in the western world thanks to USA propaganda, but the USA itself isn't doing much better with their constant warmongering. The EU is trying their best to impose "chat control" (read: complete digital surveillance) on its citizens. There is no "safe" country in this world that is incorruptible.

I find it weird how much weight people put on "the country" some developers were born into, when it comes to software that is free (as in freedom) and self-hostable in whatever jurisdiction you're in.

@arh@blackstar.cafe I don't have a printer anymore that I could test it with, sadly. When I did, I used cups on Debian and Gentoo, and on both it worked like a charm on both distros. I would expect it hasn't gotten any worse, but it may depend on the kind/brand of printer you got perhaps? I always got relatively cheap second-hand printers, so relatively old machines.

@otso@eientei.org @dwarf@borg.social @arh@blackstar.cafe From a user's perspective, the entire point of Wayland seems to be "not being X11". Its ok if it is inferiour in every use case, because at least it is not X11. I guess certain developers were upset with free software desktops becoming too stable, and had to invent something new to make sure users wouldn't be able to get too productive, or it might negatively affect Windows' market share.

@dwarf@borg.social @arh@blackstar.cafe Wayland sucks by default, compared to X11, which is the problem for me. Assuming Wayland works 100% correctly, I still don't get stuff working by default that worked fine in X11 for decades. Copy on select, autotyping passwords, screen management, locking mechanisms, wallpapers, I could go on. Things that worked perfectly fine regardless of the WM I would pick on X11 were broken, and are now being put as burdens on the compositor developers. This is fine I guess if you're using KDE or Gnome, they have pretty big teams to reinvent every wheel imaginable. This is not nearly as fine for people who just want a simple tiling window manager (this is not an invitation for simpletons to recommend me hyprland again).

The best part is that it works Just Fine(tm) in Chromium, but not in Firefox ESR. What's the big idea trying to push for more Chromium usage, @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de?

@borkdude@mastodon.social I don't know who Rich Hickey is, but if its posted on GitHub its probably not worth reading. Is there an option to read this on a more user-friendly platform?

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com Holy shit, this is next level cuckoldry...This isn’t just an email address; it is my core digital identityWhy would you make a proprietary for-profit business' platform your core digital identity. How stupid do you have to be to not immediately see issues with this set up from the get go? 25 years of not a single thought going through his head telling him maybe he shouldn't be doing it like this. The only recent activity on my account was a recent attempt to redeem a $500 Apple Gift Card to pay for my 6TB iCloud+ storage planFor that money he could buy 2x8TB HDDs and just store it at home, where nobody can "cancel" his "storage plan". This will make a return on investment before hitting the next iCloud payment.I effectively have over $30,000 worth of previously-active “bricked" hardwareTHIRTY
    FUCKING
    THOUSAND?!

So this guy is not only mentally disabled, he's also too rich for his own good. My entire cluster at home, with dozens of TB of redundant storage, seperate worker nodes, dedicated database machine, and more, is a fraction of this price.I am not a casual user.He spent 30k on Apple shit and doesn't know he could just buy a HDD and be done with his family pictures. He's the most casual a user you can come by. He's the perfect example showing no matter how hard you cuck for a proprietary company, they don't give a shit about you, so you better learn to be independent from them.
