#PhotoOfTheDay is of a USGS elevation benchmark disk on the summit of Mauna Kea, the tallest summit in Hawaii & the largest mountain on earth when measured from its base on the ocean bed.
Favorite fact:The elevation shown (13,796') is measured using traditional methods. That's from sea level. But GPS elevation is 100 or 200' higher (I forget which.) Why? Sea level here is higher as Mauna Kea is so massive it has its own gravity, which pulls the ocean up on its flanks! 😮
#PhotoOfTheDay is the Siuslaw River Bridge, a 1936 art deco drawbridge by Conde McCullough. Four deco obelisks house mechanical equipment as well as living quarters for the bridge operator. The architect designed nearly two dozen wonderful art deco bridges throughout western Oregon. #photo#photography#RoadTrip#oregon
Progress on my 3D-printed prop MCRN rifle. Still have work to do, including more painting and all the weathering... Top is my assembled 3D print, below is a cast prop from the show. (Photo taken at an angle so top one looks smaller.) #TheExpanse#prop#3dprint#scifi#cosplay
#PhotoOfTheDay View of a large swimming area from beyond some large wooden pillars at the bottom of a large staircase, at a hotel on the big island of Hawaii. I forget which one. #photo#photography#Hawaii#bigIsland
