Made yesterday a couple very quick rough mockups of how lists on Mastodon could be extended to be public and/or used as starter packs. I think it could be one of the easiest way to share follow recommandations with a minimum of change from the bits Mastodon already has? (another could be being able to generate a CSV of a specific set of people and then share that to be imported, but that’s much more technical)
@Gargron@paulomalley@elan For discoverability and user experience, it could be worth moving these hashtags away from the sidebar (which is usually navigation that isn’t contextual to the content) and to the profile itself? And for the profile owner themselves, add an “Edit featured hashtags” next to it?
First of all, we is @liaizon and @raphael and me :) We put a link to a credit section of our readme, but maybe it’s too discreet indeed.
So we actually started this in 2022 but we haven’t been very studious with it 😅 Earlier this week we finally decided to publish our draft just so at least the idea is out there.
Je relis le Schtroumpfissime parce que c’est de saison, et j’avais totalement oublié que le groupe de résistance contre le fascisme du personnage titre s’appelle “les insoumis” 😆
https://cloud68.co/managed-hosting.html only has GitLab but has a “Request” button and page to suggest adding new “nice free open source platform (released under a permissive license) that you would like to see in this list”
@dansup Good features, though maybe “Share” isn’t the right name for that drawer since only one action in it does that. Maybe “Actions”, or no name at all. What icon opens it?
@louisderrac@charles@Faket Oui en effet vous avez raison. Au passage, la page d’accueil par défaut du navigateur, avec des raccourcis directs vers Agoda, Aliexpress, Booking, eBay, Walmart.
@dansup GNOME is definitely worth a try! I personally like it a lot and that’s the only computer interface I feel at home in, but even just out of curiosity on a design standpoint, interesting to try out. I also use macOS daily at work, and they have similarities but are also quite different. GNOME is more minimalist and more cosy.
@dansup@pixelfed Looks good! Much cleaner and more parseable. I do however think it’s important to keep the capitalisation and the tag order that the person chose? Those can convey meaning.
I know it’s a pretty high limit by today’s standards, but I’m thinking this feature could have a good use in education, for instance for a classroom project where each kid has a account to post photography or art, and the teacher is in control.
There is also the use case of adding more than one parent to manage the kid’s account. I’m guessing one parent should be able to add another.
@evan@tony It’s interesting how different languages/countries have adopted existing words (creating a new meaning for them) to refer to organic produce.
“Organic” in English, “Biological” (for instance where I’m from, France), “Ecological” (for instance where I live, Denmark). It would be interesting to see others!
They all work, but there’s a dilution of the original meaning. Something could be “ecological” but not “ecological”, “biological” but not “biological”, “organic” but not “organic”.
@aral And yes, they are completely missing the point.
One question is if a server that capable means that it’s lighter and cheaper to run for small instances? In that case it could still be somewhat interesting…
All in all it seems that this is just a tech demo for their “Rama” product, whatever that is.
