Pete Hegseth is supposedly all concerned about detriments to military standards should we continue to allow women in combat roles. Yet his appointment itself is simply outrageous by historical, ethical, strategic, or any other standards. Hegseth just wants to keep women out of top jobs in the military. His motives are ridiculously transparent. #USPolitics

@PhoenixSerenity When I left Facebook after being on it for 13 years, I got guilt-tripped by a relative who said that if I left Facebook, it was going to “hurt the closeness of the family.” I replied, what, you can’t pick up the phone once in a while? I mean, it’s codswallop what people will say to you to get you to toe the line.

@skinnylatte This is so interesting to me. You should write a book about your uncle, and your relationship with him. I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY3) is a member of the Capitulation Caucus (it was called appeasement in an earlier time) and he wrote a Jan 1 2025 NYT OpEd piece entitled, “Let’s Try Something Different in How We Deal w/ trump”. He loses me immediately by claiming that HE KNOWS "many voters reject my party’s significant leftward shift.” What leftward shift? The dangerous lurch of the right to extremism is what’s concerning. Stop blowing smoke!! #USPolitics

In trump’s sequel show, mass media is rushing to appease him:
--ABC News donated $15 million to Trump's presidential library to settle a flimsy defamation lawsuit filed by Trump. The settlement came days after Trump was ordered to sit for a deposition in the case.
--Through Amazon, Bezos donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration.
--Patrick Soon-Shiong, the billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Times, blocked the publication of an op-ed criticizing Trump's cabinet picks.

I thought the thing about Kash Patel’s having written a children’s book that casts Trump as king and Patel himself as a wizard was a joke. But it’s true, Marc Elias confirms it. The publisher, BRAVE Books, is a “Christian” publishing company, so why are they spreading lies? (This is a rhetorical question).

There are real similarities between South Korea's president, Yoon Suk Yeol, and trump. Yoon Suk Yeol invoked martial law this week, trying to install a military dictatorship -- and failed completely. Timothy Snyder, author of informative books on tyranny, says that in Yoon Suk Yeol’s actions there are some likely similarities with the coming Trump regime, and some clear lessons for Americans to learn right now. Check out Timothy Snyder’s substack entitled, “Dictator For a Day”.

Timothy Snyder has a great piece today about imagining that the day has come for your brain surgery. You hope that the surgeon has the skills. You lie on the table, half-naked and vulnerable. You see someone dressed as a surgeon approach the table. She is smiling and in her hand is a knife. It’s Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard is Donald Trump's choice to operate American intelligence. Would YOU share information w/ such a person? Would you trust your brain in this person’s hands?

    The Atlantic, by David Frum:

"Trump announced that he intended to fire Wray to replace him with Kash Patel, a person notorious for his cringing deference to Trump’s wishes. Something that was regarded as outrageously unacceptable in 2017—treating an FBI director as just another Trump aide—has been semi-normalized even before President-Elect Trump takes office.

The firing of Christopher Wray is the real outrage."

If there's one universally accepted truth in the modern age, it's that sequels suck. And Trump 2.0 will be no exception. Michael Tomasky (reporter for The New Republic) has a prediction: After 12:00 noon next January 20, it won’t take Fox News and Fox Business even a full hour to start locating every positive economic indicator they can find and start touting those. Within weeks, the “roaring Trump economy” will be conventional wisdom. #RightWingPropaganda is why trump won.

The fact that Trump cared whether Gaetz had the votes for confirmation shows that Trump was bluffing about forcing recess appointments.
