I have a VPN active at all times for those IP ranges where service is better when it (appears to) come(s) from my university (i.e. typically for paywalls to academic articles).

@mcc Why is the translation service tied to a browser? Wouldn't it also be useful in other applications? Why is the world so broken?

@frost Note that the two are qualitatively different w.r.t the security model under which they operate: for the card, a transaction can happen any time something passes within its NFC's range, whereas for phone payment a transaction usually happens only after a specific action on your part (which often includes some form of (re)authentication), so there's a lower probability that you are unaware the transaction is taking place.
