@kaia I know plenty of people with ADHD that write pretty well. Can't say my own handwriting would prove that statement tho. One may think I'm a general practitioner if they had to judge by my handwriting. :yay:
@kaia They don't maintain the DNS infrastructure as a whole (my domain has my own nameservers + slaves provided by my instance's UNIX-beard and Afraid.org).
But they do need to keep a decent bunch of infra going, which just costs money.
@chjara To be fair, registrars also have to deal with a bunch of requirements such-as: - 5 full-time employees (may be less under some circumstances). - A certain security and scalability. - Backups - Provide insurance.
Keeping their infra running costs money and they aren't running a charity.
Additionally, registrars only pay like US$0.18 to ICANN, which I personally wouldn't call a "ridiculous fee".
@mametsuko They are called "werfkelders" and were basically just used as storage. Either so that: - Merchants didn't need to carry stuff from water level to street level and then down again later (just saving a bunch of effort). - Merchants could unload shipments into the werfkelder and then carry to street level at their own pace (rather than have the goods stand in the open and easy to be stolen).
@icedquinn Except that the currency-type has little to nothing to do with war ("money is money").
WW1 took place under the gold standard, WW2 saw a limited gold bullion standard (and Bretton Woods), The Korean war + Vietnam war + Bamileke and many more happened under the Bretton Woods system before the "Nixon Shock" in 1971 when it all turned into fiat currency.
ISIS and ISIL were known to use BTC as well for their wars.
@kaia Hardware doesn't really matter that much when software isn't there.
So I suspect Intel may only lose customers that would otherwise buy stuff for Edge and IoT like the N200 and X6416RE but that's it.
I mainly suspect things like cars, packaging machines and that kinda stuff might use it.
Desktop and laptop, I think will barely be dented by Nvidia unless they come with a really good software proposition (like Apple's Rosetta2) and hardware to aid transition (like x86-64 memory ordering).
@aral Yea, I still pay a bunch in cash but indeed it's getting harder and harder to do so. Places where you can put cash into your bank account are also becoming increasingly rare.
